CHARLOTTE PRODUCES RARE
TALENT FOR CADUCEUS
ARB artistic talent of sev
eral young people of
Charlotte has been em
ployed to a valuable de
gree in producing the
high standard that The Caduceus has
attained in military journalistic cir
cles. With tTEie compliment from
Washington, during the past week,
proclaiming The Caduceus as one of
the strongest magazines of the medical
department of the U. S. Army, we feel
called upon the more to thank these
friends of the soldiers who have con
tributed so much to our success.
The picture on the cover of The
Christmas issue of last week was a
design of no ordinary rating and has
been the subject of much flattering
comment. It was the work of Miss
Hallie McMillan, 605 Kingston avenue.
Miss McMillan also designed the artis
tic frontispiece for the Thanksgiving
number of The Caduceus.
The Charlotte News in commenting
on the work of Miss McMillan as the
producer of the cover picture has the
following to say: —
“Miss McMillan is the daughter of
Mrs. J. P. McMillan of Kingston ave
nue, Dilworth. She is a graduate of
Elizabeth college, afterwards studying
art in Pittsburg for two years. She
has done work on the Southern Public
Utilities magazine and for theater pro
grams in the city. Those who have
studied her work closely predict for
her more than local fame in the years
to come.”
The cover for this issue of The Ca
duceus is the work of Bennie Shaw,
window decorator for Belk Brothers
and who has done extensive work for
the Camp Greene magazine. Other
pictures are by L. J. Frichard, Pine
street, who has displayed no ordinary
skill in his productions for past issues
and Vernon Lawing, of The News
office force
FIVE DISCHARGED
The second group of men to be
discharged from the enlisted person
nel of the U. S. Army Base Hospital
consist of: Henry Deatrick, Paul Arm
strong, Leo Hawkins, George Hedge
and John Durand. These men de
parted for their homes on Tuesday
expecting to spend the happiest day
of the year with their famiiies.
