More than 20,000 men have been in ducted into the service at Camp Greene by the Camp Personel office and which organization is now en gaged in discharging the men of the camp. The personnel office was organized and its force built up by Major James E. Manierre, whose picture apapears on the front cover of The Caduceus. Major Mannierre has been in the ser vice since May, 1917, when he was commissioned a lieutenant in the Sig nal Corps, His early training was in the aviation work at Kelly Field, Texas. C., it was decided by the War Department that this camp would not be used as an aviation camp, but would be used as a miscellaneous camp for the organ ization of overseas labor battalions and pioneer infantry, also as a receiv ing camp for limited service men. Captain Manierre organized the Personnel Office at Camp Greene, building it from a force of two clerks and one officer to its present sive of seven officer sand one' hundred and eighty-one enlisted men. This organization has inducted into the service at this camp approximate ly twenty thousand colored men and five thousanad white limited service men, organizing them into overseas Labor Battalions ,and Pioneer Infant ry, classifying the men according to trades and occupations and transferr ing them on orders of the War De partment to all branches of the ser vice.
