The toal value of the school property—as school property—white and colored, of High Point, is
about $900,000.00—a very good aggi’egate for a town of 15,000 people. The present population of
the City, however, is nearly 25,000.
It is now necessary to bring the school facilities up to the needs of the new city. The expend
iture of the proposed $750,000.00 bond issue for school buildings will give High Point a fair aver
age among cities of its size.
At present Charlotte is the only city in the State larger than High Point with a lower per cap
ita school property valuation. This condition in Charlotte is now being overcome by the expendi
ture of more than 81,000.000.00 for school buildings.
