Reserves Trounced By Visitors, 20 To 0 Soccer Team Wins Thrice Loses Once The Bison Soccer Team has charged through four games this year and has literally stampeded three of its foes. Coach Sam Smith feels that the Bison hoofers this year have the best chance they have had in three years to win the State Champion ship, the meet which is to be held in November. Coach Smith said to the Pointer reporter: “High Point has a very good team this year, the best that it has had in several years. It has the Best chance to win the championship that it has had in three years.” The Bisons have played four games so far this year. These hard-fought games were played with Curry High, of Greensboro, Bessemer High, of Bessemer, Guil ford high school, and Jamestown High of Jamestown. In the first two games the Bisons were vic torious, winning by 3-0 and 2-0, but Jamestown, the State Champ ions of last year and one of the Black Bison Reserves were held in reserve last Tuesday by the Lexington Reserves by a score of 20-0. End rushes, line bucks and passes failed to prevail on the Lexington defense, as the Lexing ton reserves pounded hard on the Bisonettes front door and found it open in the first half. D. Cra- ver of Lexington made the first touchdown for Lexington in the last minutes of the first half. Finding their constant driving to no avail, the Lexington reserves rambled through the Bisonettes to score two more touchdowns and both times converted their extra points. Philpot, of Lexington, made both of the touchdowns in the second half. D. Carver converted to add two more points to the Lexington score. Playing for High Point were: Ellison, B. Taylor, Kimsey, Hil ton, Simmons, Wagner, Justice, Bocholis, Cleveland, Evans and F. Taylor. Substitutes for High Point were: Bencini, Hucks, Amick Graham, Preston, Linthicum, Kimsey, Reid, L. Hayworth, Bar ker, Hulin, J. Hayworth. Officials were men of the var- S. Homey, B. Hucks, and A. sity squad; namely, T. Homey, Short. The Intra-Mural sports pro gram is being introduced in High Point High for the first time. Under the direction of Mr. A- J. Simeon and Mr. Howard Car ter the program is already under way. The purpose of this program: is to give people, who like sports but are unable for one reason or another to participate in Varsity campetition, a chance to play the sport that they like. The various homerooms will organize teams to take part in this program. Teams for the different sports will be organized in the different seasons. Each team will have a m'anager whose duties will be those usually devolved to such an office. The teams will also have a captain and a representative to the Intra-Mural Student Council- One person may hold two of these offices, but there must be two persons for the three offices. The Intra-Mural Student Coun cil will settle all disputes and will be the governing body in all activities connected with the Intra Mural program. Letters will be given the parti cipants in this program. To win (Continued on Page 4) j Deception and Speed Will Be ! Bison Mainstay In Game Today DR. He is followed by H. Hedrick. At the time this paper goes to press the Bison Soccerteers have only one more home game. That will be with Jamestown-High on November 3. We should like to express our desire for High Point Students to come out and see this game. Why not be on hand to help cheer your team on to victory? nuuiimiimmmmmniiii| I If you drive, walk, work, or play | 1 Practice safety every day. | I INDUSTRIAL FINANCE CO. | I 203 South Main Street | 1 PERSONAL LOANS AUTO LOANS j |„^ mm mi™—™ a"""™ The sport season being well un der way—We are looking foward to the football game in Salisbury, this afternoon. i-Our “boys,” having lost three games and won two, are going to Salisbury this afternoon to do battle with the “Yellow Jackets,” our second conference opponents. Starting the season off with a very decisive victory over South High’s team from Winston Salem, the Bisons fell before the superior weight of Reidsville, Reynolds high from Winston Salem and Mills Home 14-12, 12-0, 18-0, re spectively. The “fighting Bisons” conquered the Lexington team, which out weighed them tremendously, to the tune of 14-7, and they start to Salisbury this afternoon, they will be three to one to defeat the “Yellow Jackets,” because they have been priming for this battle. If we win this battle the High Point Bisons will be even up for the year, winning three and los ing three. When the Bisons win this battle, they’ll be in the run for State laurels! I’ll predict the outcome of this so important contest as—19-0 for our boys! Mr. Smith’s soccerteers have prospered very well this year, having won three and lost one. The defeat came at the hands (or should I say feet) of Jamestown squad, who have always been High Point’s toughest rivals in soccer. This group of boys have been working hard all season and we should give them the credit due them. Our team has the best chance that a Bison soccer team has ever had in capturing the State championship! Thanks to Soc Chakales and Curt Denning for the use of the mats for pictures in this isssue. Well I’ll be traggling on— un til next week, when I’l have to set my feeble brain to function ing again. —Adios. The Bison Soccer team won over Bessemer High Tuesday af ternoon to the tune of 2-0, and now remain in the running for the county championship. High Point led the attack in every quarter. Only once in the second quarter was Bessemer in scoring territory, but then the Bisons repelled the attack and sent the ball back into enemy territory. Tucker scored in the second quarter and H. Hedrick in the fourth, giving High Point two points. Mr. Sam Smith, the Bison coach, stated that High Point played a fine game, but was at her best in the second half. Mr. Mann, coach of Bessemer’s squad, remarked, “Hjgh Point has a very fine team.” Tucker, H. Hedrick, and Wil- liam'son were the outstanding players on the local team. Journeying to Salisbury, the Black Bisons tangle with the Yellow Jackets in a hoof and hug battle at the Salis bury athletic field at 3:30. The Bisons, out-weighed, will go up against a favored team. Last year the Yellow Jackets swarmed over the Bisons and stinging hard scored a victory. 1 Although the Bisons have won two games and lost three, they are still being picked by experts to win this game. If victorious, the Bisons will still be in the run ning for state laurels. This is the second western con ference tilt. In their first West ern Conference game with Rey nolds High, of Winston-Salem, the Bisons were defeated by a score of 12-0. That defeat came some what as a surprise hard on a vic tory over South High and a de feat in which Reidsville High eeked out a victory by the score of 14-13. Coaches June Scott and Ken Stephens have been putting the boys through the finishing touches for the past few days, working hard on pass defense. Salisbury will probably take to the air against the Bisons be cause the running-play defense of the Bisons is toO' strong. The two stellar linesmen, Hussey and Wagner, have sustained minor leg injuries from the Lexington game, but they will probably see service from the opening moments of the game today. Deception and speed will prob ably be High Point’s mainstays for the game. Homey, Hucks, and Short have shown their ability in speedy and deceptive attacks in other games this year. Average attendance at all col lege football games over a nine- week season is 16,000,000 people. And they pay about f20,000,000 for their tickets! F’tball, Soccer, Basketball, Golf BEESON H’DWARE CO.
