Chakales Comments On Fundamental Truth In Football By Soc Chakales Once upon a time The Elephant Child stuck his nose in the green, etc., Limpopo river and emerged with a snout, which is something I am not going to do in High Point high school... Thanks for honoring me by offering this space, but I just haven’t got anything to say, except—^if you ’ll ask your football coaches they- II thell you that football games are won the week before the actual contest. The game itself is the physical execution of what had been mentally determined during the week of practice .. .. The absence of determination is invaribly found in teams who get upset.... On the other hand, a team with spirit can be driven by desperation to an unbelievable height because of fear—fear of defeat... Friday night, I hope, your Bison aren’t driven by des peration but by determination to excell. That’s the real payoff. The Bison, riding the crest of a four game winning streak and climaxing a very successful sea son, batle the fighting whirlwind team from Greensboro tonight at the college stadium at 8 o’clock. High Point’s Black Bison, un derdogs in this most im'portant contest, will be fighting for their only chance at the state cham pionship; if victorious, a coin must be tossed to decide whether High Point or Winston-Salem journey to Durham to play the Eastern Conference champions. In event that the team-, which goes to Durham, is victorious, a game must be played with the team that was left at home to decide the state champions. The ever-improving Bison, who have taken their last four games from Lexington, Salisbury Char lotte and Gastonia, have been polishing up on those plays that took them to pay-dirt and they have been practicing blocking and tackling. Hussey and his “Educated Toe” might be the deciding factor in the game, while Hucks, Short, and the Homey Brothers will take charge of the offensive work in the backfield. Boles, Wagner, Ferguson, and Kivett will be the biggest hinderance to the “Whirl- vinds” offensive thrums, r All tho E»«in plj^'^'rr. cxcent BBl Wagner, captain/ who has a alight leg injury, but'will probab ly see action from the starting whistle to the last second of play, are ready for action.
