Spring Practice
To Start Soon
Spring practice, with all its trou
bles, backaches, and headaches,
has come to High Point high school
again. Coach Simeon stated that
most of the returning varsity
squad, junior varsity, and a lot of
new boys who want to get in
shape for the coming season.
Most of the second and third
strings of the varsity squad are
expected to improve in this sess
ion of skull cracking and move up
into the varsity positions left by
the graduating seniors. Most of
last year’s varsity squad will
leave the team. Only five of the
first string positions will be left.
These positions will be filled by
Richard Crowder, Allan Smith,
Bill Campbell, Truett Grant, and
Bill Hunsucker.
Practice will start as soon as
the weather permits, lasting about
six weeks ending with an inter
squad game the final act until the
fall practice starts in late August.
SPORTS
REVIEW
BY KISSER BLACKBURN
Well, basketball is almost all
over now for another year. This
pas season has been quite disturb
ing to some people but on a whole
it is quite satisfactory except for
the two games withour neighbor
to the east.
Track is coming into the lime
light again with a very good pros
pect for a very good track team.
Several meets have been sched
uled, the first is to be tomorrow
in Chapel Hill.
Baseball will soon be in the off
ing for the general public and new
rookies for the team. Most of last
years team is expected to still be
with the Bison squad except for
the little guy of the team, Curtis
McDonald.
Something this school needs very
much is a larger gymnasium. I
wonder how prospects are of get
ting a larger and more complete
gym for the athletic department.

“Twice around the track and do
a few push-ups.” That will be a
familiar sound for the boys who
are coming out for the track team
this year. It was announced last
week that Coach Homer MdCoy
would have the track team under
his direction this year as he has
had in the past.
Track and the field sport of put
ting the shot, heaving the javelin,
and throwing the discus are grow
ing into ever increasing popular
ity with the schools and with stu
dents who like to participate in
them.
High Point high school’s team
will take part in a triangle meet
with Winston-Salem and Greens
boro later in the season. An indoor
meet was held in Chapel Hill Sat
urday, where the Bison team par
ticipated. The state meet will be
held on April 10.
The skeleton of this year’s
track team will be formed around
the members of last year’s team
who will be back. These boys are
as follows: B. B. Yarborough,
Eugene Bray, Woodrow Crisco,
Robert Ellison, Bob Lee, Robert
Smith, Allan Smith, Charlie Jones,
Donald Spencer, Ray Hayworth,
Tommy McGhee, Charles McCon-
key, and Dewey Beck.

presented to him for this honor.
The banquet held in the school

were made by Charles F. Carroll
