Many Awards To Be Given To Outstanding Graduates 95 RECEIVE HP LETTERS HP monograms — symbols of out standing athletic achievement at High Point High were awarded to 95 stu dents in an assembly program last Monday. Head coach Tony Simeon presided and the other departmental coaches participated in presenting the awards. The following students received letters: Basketball: Coach Simeon Bill Hunsucker Richard Crowder Grady Anderson T. C. Isom Dewey Beck Kenneth Yarborough W. B. Miller Allen Smith Jack Ridge Jack Powell Milton Candler Jack White Neivin Cooper Bill Ellington Truitt Grant Frank Hassell Richard Harris Furniture On Display In Gymnasium During Final Week Of School That High Point is interested in its public school graduates seems evident from the growing list of awards to be presented at the close of each year to members of the senior class. One of the latest to be announced through Mr. R. T. Holton, president of the Continental Furniture Com pany, is the award of three pieces of solid mahogany furniture to three top- ranking members of the class of ’48. Furniture Awards Given 'I'he first award, a poster bed, will go to the senior girl graduating with the highest scholastic average. The senior boy with the highest average will receise a chest of drawers. To the bov who has attained the highest pro ficiency in trade wood-work will be presented a second chest of drawers. In the crent of ties, the first two awards will be duplicated. Watches Again Offered .\gain this year, Perkinson’s is offer ing valuable watches as gifts to two fortunate graduates. An eight-day clock, with a huge dial bearing the names of each senior boy and girl, will be wound and placed in the window of the jewelry store. The lucky stu dents on whose names the hands stop will be the recipients of the two watches. Prizes which have been awarded annuallv for a number of vears include the Cecil Athletic Medal, the Honor ary Science Award, the Rones Schol arship Medal, the A. B. Parker Athletic Trophy, the Industrial .^rts Award, and the Industrial Arts Improvement .\ward. Junior high school will be entitled to a partial membership which w ill admit the members only at designated times. These dri\-es will extend through the summer, and while only sereral hundred dollars ha\e been raised thus far, a sufficient amount to begin a center is expected before the end of vacation. The first floor of the Arcade build ing is now an ar’ailable site for the center; however the location is still under discussion.
