Bison-Bus^ Training Car Are Vital School Vehicles Two vital vehicles to High Point" * High are the newly-purchased “Bison-Bviis” and a 1949 Ford Driver-Training car. The bus was purchased early this fall by the Athletic Association for the purpose of transporting athletic teams; and, although per haps being new is not so “vital, the “Bison-Bus” has been kept pretty busy. It seats 35, and is covered by full liability insurance, including occupants, pedestrians, or other cars who could possibly figure in an accident. Official bus driver is Sergeant Frank Shields, H. P. P. D.; but all trips are sanctioned by Principal D. P. Whitley. A white Ford marked “Driver- Training” car is a more familiar sight to students, since HPHS is in its second-year sponsorship of these driving classes. The car is furnished by English Motor E®'! gas by the high school P.-T. A. Sergeant Shields, also driving in structor, selects his future drivers from gym classes. According to EMitor Wash burn, several orders have al ready been sent to John and Ollier, the engravers; and work is well under way on the class panels. Right now the work is mainly technical. DE MOLAY MEETS IN CHARLOTTE The North Carolina De Molay chapter will hold their annual con clave in Charlotte on November 27 and 28 for the purpose of elect ing state officers and getting ac quainted with the new chapters of the state. Because of the polio epidemic during the Summer, the conven tion was postponed in July. Highlighting this annual meet ing will be a dance on Saturday night lasting from 9:00 p. m. until 1:00 p. m., preceded by a banquet at 6:30. Sunday afternoon the De Molays will see a professional football game between the Char lotte Clippers and a West Vir ginia team. Little Symphony Here On Dec* 16 The Saidenberg Sinfonietta, which is the first in the series of concerts by world famous artists, will be presented by the Commu nity Concert Association, Decem ber 16, 1948, in the Senior High school auditorium. The Saidenberg Sinfonietta is a small orchestra composed of 20 virtuoso musicians, including all sections: strings, wood, brass, per cussion. The repetoire of this group ranges from classic master- works to exciting moderns. During the year, the Community Concert Association will bring to High Point other well-known per sonalities, outstanding in the mu sical world. The second concert will be given by a male quartette. The Revelers, on January 10; and on April 7, Rose Bampton, a well- known American soprano, will ap pear as the third attraction in the series. H.P.H.S. STUDENTS VISIT GREENSBORO “Building Your House,” the theme of Greensboro Senior High’s 17 th annual Social Standards Conference, inspired four HPHS students who attended to discuss problems with our neighbors on November 10. The students, Barbara Mabrey, Suzanne Slate, Nancy Bright, and Dafrell Voncannon, journeyed to the next-door metropolis of Greensboro to participate in the discussion of problems termed im portant to them. Y-TEENS TO HOLD CONVENTION HERE The High Point Y-Teens will serve at hostesses to delegates from all parts of North Carolina for the State Y-Teen convention to be held here December 10, 11 and 12. The group is to be made up of representatives from towns scat tered over the state , a total of one hundred delegates in all. The purpose of this convention will be to elect state Y-Teen officers and to discuss teen-'age problems, such as canteens and boy-girl relations. A full program is planned for the conference. On Friday, De- rember 10, all delegates will regis ter at the local Y. W. C. A. 'ITie following morning a discussion of teen-age problems is planned, and in the afternoon election of offi cers will take place. On Saturday night a banquet will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal church, and on Sunday morning the group will at tend -worship services at the First Presbyterian church.
