The .eighth grade boys elected ibeir officer.-i Monday. The following were elected: President—Leslie Ward. Vice President—Murray Lane. Secretary-Treas.—Fred Woodard. Sponsor—Mr. David Liles. Grade Mother—Mrs. Hunter Price. Junior News. A Junior Class meeting was held last Friday afternoon for the pur pose of finding some way to make money for the banquet. It was de cided to have kodak films developed for the Siddell Studio in Raleigh, .t .small commission will be receiv- m for each roll of films that is sc,it in. To have the films develop ed through the Junior Class at the Siddetl Studio, they will cost the regular price and will be returned in three days after being received The patronage of the students and public will be greatly appreciated. 7’he cla.ss is also selling school .-iip- plie?. Senior News. The Senior Cla.ss was very mudi pleased to have as its guest last Wednesday morning, its grade- mother, Mr.s. G. D. Vick. She ex- presised her thanks to the Senior CTa-s.s- for electing her. Mrs. Vick as gracfemother for the class in its iSI.>phomore year and we are very glad to have her wdth us again. On Monday afternoon at 3:30 o’ciocfc the Seniors held a class meeting to vote on the mascots, f(.'C the ensuing year. It v.'as decid ed liy the cla«s to have two as ‘.'vrmerly. The mascots elected w'ere: Jfary Lou Driver and Billy Black. 'We are very glad to Jiave these lit tle fmople to serve- us.. The band practiced for the first time this year on W'ednesday after- noorr. Si.xfeen members -W'ere present Four of these are new members. As only a half an hour is given each week for practice under the direc tion of Miss Baines. The band’ with the Glee Club hopes to enter the State Music Contest in Greensboro next spring. The first meeting- had out of school night at 7 o’clock, practiced some of the old pieces and they hope to soon take up some new ones. roll. Poem—Lucille Doggett. Talk—Edna Eason. John Galsw'orthy Creator of a Family—William Adams. This pro.gram was very much en joyed by everyone. the band has was Tuesday The members The Philomathean Literary Society had its weekly meeting on Thursday, October 20, 1932. The president. Bessie Hatcher, called the meeting to order and J. C. Avery Jr., secre tary, called the roll. The president announced that the committee had selected the flower, motto, and colors, which were voted on. They are as follows: Motto—Pu.sh, Pull, or Get Out of the Way. Flo-wer—Pansy. Colors—Purple and Gold. The program came next which was as follows: Devotional—Ruth Avery Poem—Helen Dixon Massey. Life of Shake-peare—Willis Dewar One of Shakespeare’s Plays— Daisy Adams. Poem—James Smith. 5 Minute Talk—Elsie Earp, Current Events—Fred Archer Woodard. This program was. enjoyed by everyone. After the program the Society went into the auditorium and sang. Dramatic Club The Dramatic club held a meeting Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Spear lead the meeting and it was held in ord er that some of the members miglit be eliminated. When the club was organized there was an enrollment of eighty and it was necessary to eliminate all but about twenty. Each person was given a trial and the twenty possessing the most talent will be selected. The meeting then adjourned until next Tuesday. The F’ootball practice is coming along fine and the team is going to have a game, with Smithfield the eighth (8) of November. The first meeting of the Parent- Teachers As'oeiation was held in th-; school auditorium Monday night October 23, 1932. Thg meeting was called to order by Mrs. W. W. Hare, the president. 'I'he audienefe sung America after which they were led in prayer by Rev. W. H. Crain. A short play was then presented by the third grade under the direction of Miss Arme Thacker. Messers George Grove and James Gerow of Smithfield rendered several selec tions on the trumpet and piano. Mr. Tuttle in a talk to the parents stressed the fact that it was neces sary for every' child to attend school as much as possible- The parents were then invited in to the Lunch room where they were sen-ed light refreshments by Miss Della Stroupe and the Horae Econ omic; Class 2.
