Dobbin Bailey was hostess to the Missionary Society on Monday night. Mrs. Carl Lewis led the pro gram on “Whatsoever Things Are Just”. Mrs. R. S. Atkinson reviewed Mission Book, “Fellow Helpers to The Truth.” Iced drinks and sandwiches were served. — K — Mrs. Jim Atkins And Daughter Arrive Mrs. Jim Atkins, the forme/ Miss Eulalia Darden, has arrived in Kenly with her young daughter and will make her home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Darden for the duration of the war her husband having en listed in U. S. Air Corps. — K — Miss Lucile Kirby Died Last Week Funeral services for Miss Lucile Kirby, who died early Wednesday morning of las.t week from a long illness, were held from the Kenly Presbyterian church at 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon, ■with Dr. High A. Ellis, of Wilson, and the Rev. Geo. B. Starling of Kenly, officiating. In terment took place in the Kenly cem etery. Surviving are four brothers, J. Rudolph Kirby and Donald H. Kirby of Kenly; James H. Kirby of Char lottesville, Va., and Kenneth Kirby of Wilmington; three sisters, Mrs. J. H. Barnes and Mrs. E. V. Neighbors of Kenly, and Mrs. Ernest I. Wood of Raleigh, and several nieces and neph ews. Miss Kirby was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James H. Kirby of Kenly. She was a registered nurse for 10 years, having taken her training in Wilson, and being connected ■with the hospitals there after graduation. Wall and family Presbyterian Jr. College Get A Second Quota Presbyterian Junior College, Max- ton, N. C., has been granted another quota in Secondary C.P.T.P. Aviation. The Spring Program of the C.PiT.P. has already begun in Primary and in the first quota of Secondary. Several openings remain to be filled in the second Secondary quota. Under .the new Government regulations, all costs of the C. P. T. aviation are paid except an insurance fee. Interested young men should contact Presbyte rian Junior College at once. God win. expressed his appreciation of the work that the W. M. U. is doing. A collection of $35.00 was donated for Home Missions. Sandwiches and coffee were served during the social hour. Blast of munitions truck felt by the people here, but until the 6:30 news Saturday morning we didn’t know where it was. — C-H — Miss Minnie V. Bailey and Worth Moore, of Raleigh, w’ere guests of Jesse W. Bailey and family Saturday evening. Miss Bailey, who ■was on du ty, was unable to join her father on Sunday for his birthday dinner. Bailey and daughter. An inter esting program is being prepared by •the program committee. — C-H — Attend Funeral Of Monroe Pittman, Sr. Several people from here attended the funeral of Monroe Pittman, Sr., which was held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, at Branch Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Debro Stancil of Kenly. Interment took place in the cemetery at the church. — C-H — Mrs. Richard Garner Breaks Back In Fall Mrs. Richard Garner is a patient at Duke Hospital, Durham. Mrs. Garner sustained a broken back when she fell Friday afternoon while helping her family get some wood for the home. Mrs. S. M. Boyette and Miss Edna Boyette were called to Bunnell, Fal., on Thursday because of the death of Mrs. Boyette’s sister, Mrs. Brunson. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mengle, while en route from Lake Worth, Fla., to Pennsylvania, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Barbour on last Thursday. Dr. and Mrs. R. W. Bunn, of Win ston-Salem, spent the week end ■with Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Sanders. Mrs. S. E. Ford, of Oxford, is spending several days with her pa rents, Rev. and Mrs. N. W. Harrison. Mr. and Mrs. T. C. The devo.tional was given by Mrs. J. W. Sanders. During the social hour the members played bingo. Sandwich es and tea were served. — FO — Mrs. Fred Goats Gives Birthday Party Mrs. Fred Coats gave a birthday party on Thursday afternoon for her daughter, Carolyn. The home was made beautiful with spring flowers. After the little guests had played several games, they gathered in the dining room around a table made beautiful with Easter decorations. Here they were served the birthday cake with ice cream. Guests were: Anne Massengill, Faye Massengill, Anne Creech, Lea Upchurch, Barbara Harrill, Jean Johnson, Linda Barbour, Geraldine Coats, Richard Harrill. Charles Up church, Bobby Massengill and Fred Johnson Coats. — FO — Demonstration Club At Rehobeth Meets The Rehobeth Demonstration club met at the Rehobeth Community building on Friday. Mrs. Russell Las siter, Mrs. Theron Lassiter, Mrs. Ransom Flowers were the hostesses. Mrs. Robert Hart gave a demonstra tion on “Seed,” after which the host esses served coffee and cookies. People in this section were sur prised to learn Monday that Newton Grove school house had been destroy ed by fire early Sunday morning. Vernon Core, of Fort Jackson, S. C., spent the week end here with his parents. Mr. Rich Strickland is somewhat improved, after being on the sick list for the past week. Miss Estalene Elmore, of Sanford, spent the week end here with her pa rents. Mrs. W. H. Strickland is still on the sick list. Her friends wish for her a speedy recovery. Pope and mother, Mrs. Esther B. Pope, Burl Lee and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith. David Core, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Core, is seriously ill here at his parents’ home. Friends of Mrs. Milford Jackson will be glad to know that she is im proving, after going to Duke Hospit al last week.
