18 A & E NEWS and VIEWS SPRING, 1968 ADRIAN PLANTS NEWS By Maycie Malthews Guess what? It’s news time again. First of all I want to thank (for all of us here at the Adrian) Adrian- Madora Plant for the nice Christmas gifts they gave us. The ladies got elec- ja. Rs frying pans, and 4 ‘*1*^ Bf the men got an ice \ ^ r chest and all of us got a fat turkey. Thanks again. All the news reporters were invited to the new office building Maycie Mafthews jg We were taken on a tour thru the building, and it is beautiful. We all enjoyed it very much. One of our section men, Jim Row land, broke his foot on the ice in Jan. Be glad when you get back to work Jim. We’ve missed you. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Soles will cele brate their 14th wedding anniversary March 13th. (This is so you won’t for get Chris a present Lester.) Robbie Priest’s son. Buddy, entered the Army Feb. 16th. He is taking train ing at Fort Bragg, N. C. He is a former employee of Adrian. John Mathis who works in the card room is the proud father of an 8 lb. son, born January 18th. Charles Morgan (second shift over seer) and Joan had a new baby girl, they are both thrilled over her. Ruby Bynum (Its grandmother) works at the Adrian too. Pearl McCallister’s brother, Paul Lof- tin, is in the hospital recovering from a heart attack. Eudell Bumgardner left for Seattle, Washington, February 27th for two months. Her son, Harold, has been transferred up there. She went on her first jet flight. I know she will have a good time. Congratulations to our newlyweds on the first shift, Howard Riding and Rose Reese were married December 11th. Best wishes to you. Sol Groome and his wife. Bessie en joyed a trip to Maggie Valley. Mr. & Mrs. Lewis Perkins went to a surprise birthday dinner for their son, Roy, who was 26 years old. Glad to see Margie Martin back on the second shift. She has a bouncing baby boy born on Oct. 14th. She has 10 children and is proud of them all. SP/5 David Willis is on a 30 day leave from Korea. He and his wife, Linda and baby Scottv are at his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Willis. He will report back to Fort Bliss, Texas. Linda and Scotty are going with him. David doffed spin ning here at the Adrian before going into service. Sorry to hear that Hettie Jernigan has been out sick. We hope she will be back soon. Virginia Crowell has returned to work after being in the hospital. All for now folks! See yoU next time and it will be summer. Through the news Ruby Swanson columns and pic tures, employees tell of their activities and interests. Management speaks to the employees through the editorials and features, telling them what the company is trying to accomplish. So we urge you to read all your News and Views so you will be well informed about your company and fellow em ployees. Have you noticed anything new about this issue? Betty Dula’s son, Charles, and Linda Jean Hallyburton were married during the Christmas holidays. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bob by Davis who announce the birth of a daughter, Athena Renae, on Feb. 15. Alma Carlton has a new grand daughter, which makes her an even dozen grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Reid announce the engagement of the daughter, Wan da Sue. to Pink Grant Lackey. P. G., who is in the U. S. Navy, he is a former Nelson employee and the son of our Hazel Lackey. A March 23 wedding is planned. Sergeant George R. Warlick, son of Edith Warlick, has been recognized for helping his unit earn the U. S. Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. The sergeant, a weapons mechanic in the 4258th Strategic Wing at U- Tapao Air field, Thailand, will wear the distinc tive service ribbon as a permanent dec oration. Ila Watson expects her son. Petty Of ficer Roger Watson, home from Saigon April 17. Mae Summerow was happy to have her son, Spc/4 Larry Summerow. home on leave from Viet Nam in Feb. He has returned to his base. Spc/4 William H. Hall, son of Hildred Hall, has been in Viet Nam since Jan.l. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Murphy celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary Feb. 18. Mr. Neff, Mr. Barger, and all the personnel at the main office in Mt. Holly made the visit of your reporters pleasant and helpful. Mr. Alan Dickson and. Mr. A. W. Bell took time to speak to the meeting. After being served a delicious lunch in the cafeteria, we were taken on a tour of the building. The Executive Offices are tastefully dec orated. The Business Offices are equip ped with the most modern office ma chines. "To drive a nail without smashing your Ihumb, either hold the hammer with both hands or get your wife to hold the nail." AMERICAN PLANT NEWS By Phyllis Black News time again?? Spring is just around the corner, I think. Or is it? I enjoyed the meeting with all our news reporters at the Main Office. After getting ac quainted with them, I know why our magazine is such a good one. “Red” Linderman some winning at our plant i Volunteer Fire T,,. „■ Dept. Taylor John- PhyllU Black gun. Os Waldroop won four turkeys and a ham at the “shoot”, and one of the winning tickets belonged to me. Lloyd Proctor held another winning ticket. Os won 5 times out of 15 shots. Ruth Jordan has two new great- grand-children. John Davis recently retired after working as a quiller operator for 25 years. He has ten child ren, who are living all over the coun try, so I’m sure he’s going to do a lot of traveling. He has gone to Miami, Florida now. Lucky John! Welcome to our new employees: Rosemary Smith, David Thrift, and William Radford. Welcome also to: Steve Norton, trainee, who is visiting our plant. James P. Helton’s son-in-law has gone back to Vietnam for a second time. Hope he’ll return safely. Ray Henley’s father is able to walk again after suffering a broken hip. Fred Gantt is in the hospital. We sure miss him. Hope he’ll soon be back with us. Did anyone see a pony riding around in a stationwagon? Ken Silvers bought it for his twin sons, and were they sur prised to see it riding home in the car! Rosemary Smith is glad this is lean year. She just might get up enough nerve to propose to someone.
