More Action Than Talk
There are many people in North
Carolina who do a lot of talking
about juvenile delinquency and
youth crime but there are very
few who are trying to do something
about the problem. One of them
is an Elizabeth City woman who
devotes considerable time to the
problems of youth.
She is Mrs. E. M. (Mocile)
Spellman, a widow and a former
teacher at Elizabeth City State
Teachers College. A native of this
section and daughter of the late
Dr. Cardwell, who was loved by

Birthday Gift Project Under Way
Birthday Gift Project
As you know the N. C. Federation of Negro Women’s Clubs
voted to send gift-wrapped birthday gifts and cards to each student
in the four Training Schools of the state.
The students have expressed deep appreciation for this interest
from you. They say that it has brought a great deal of sunshine into
their lives.
There have been an average of 65 birthdays each month for
the last five months. This means that each club will be asked to
send gifts to nine or ten students during the year.
Now that your club is making plans for the year, won’t you
include birthday gifts for these worthy students?
If your club doesn’t meet during the summer months, please,
make arrangements to take care of the gifts at this time.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
