However, we did run across sev eral youngsters peddling their wares on an upper Broad street lawn the other aftei’noon, and it 1 made us remember the calamity [that once befell Mrs. Ray Brewer [when she was living on Spencer I avenue. Her son,'William Ray, now a [happily married father residing in Kentucky, if we remember right- lly, was just a little fellow at the I time. His mother agreed to let him I have a rummage sjle, with other I neighborhood kids. Having given I her approval, she went downtown [to shop for a few bargains. Little did she know that the big- Igest bargain in all the village was being offered in her absence by William Bay. She returned home to discover that a brand new |irdle she had put away in a closet just the day before had been sold by William Ray for exactly 39 cents. William Ray couldn’t describe the purchaser to Mrs.. Brewer, but he said she seemed to be a satis fied customer when she walked away. HAVF YCrU SUbLfCRIBED TO THE MIRROR YET? She got more than she bargain ed for. A sunflower sprouted from the dirt. At last report it was over 16 feet tall and growing taller by the minute. The flower itself was yet to reach full bloom. “I’ve seen sunflowers all ray life,’’ says Mrs. Brinkley, “but nev er one as big as this." Her neighbors heartily agreed.
