North Carolina oovEBNoa sANroao Dear Mr. Harrill: Thank you for your letter of January 20 and the opportunity to extend a maeeage to the 4-H Club members of North Carolina. / First, let me commend you for your own record in this program. To the member* of the 4-H Club, I would say the same thing that I have said so often in talking with their fathers and mother* during the past year; North Carolina does not intend to get out of the farming business. It is our number one industry and we will give It the same attention that has been placed so successfully on industry. Ih a world udiere millions go to bed each night hungry, I think that our surpluses should be considered blessings and not problems. North Carolina, as the leading state of family farms, offers a bright future for boys and girls who plan to remain on the farms. 1 cannot praise too highly the work of 4-H Club members and their leaders. You and all other farm organisations will have the support of the Governor's office in this endeavor. Sincerely. These youth, 10 to 21 years old, belong to more than 94,200 local clubs in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Since 1914, when fed eral legislation was passed to help, finance and conduct 4-H club work, about 21,332,000 young people have taken part in the “learn by doing” program. Today, 4-H is nearly ev erywhere—in almost every com munity and county, coast to coast. North Carolina leads the Nation in 4-H club work with an enroll ment of 167,000 boys and girls— 18,000 more than any other state. But the magnitude of the program is not measured in numbers alone. Of greater significance is the in fluence of the 4-H program in train- patterning youth in the art of liv ing, its Influence in changing the social pattern of life in the home, the community, and the state. Purpose of National 4-H Club Week: MIRROR MEDITATION By EMMITT L. BRINSON Man in his research, trying to understand the phenomina of life has come upon two opposing laws. One, the way of the lifeless, an or der of enthropy, to turn inward, backward, downward, to deterio rate and waste away. The other, that which contains life. To move forward, upward, ever increasing, formulating patterns of growth un til it reaches some form or essence of completion. Mass and energy are synonymous in content. Somewhere, somehow, energy begins or starts movement, organizing matter that begins to grow into forms of organism and follows a set pattern, a course of law and order. Finally, developing into that which we call life. This is a wonderful awesome, and inspir ing performance. Under these two categories lie most of man’s basic discoveries that led to many of the great won ders in the advance of Science, the development in fields of technolo gy and inventions to capture and control energy. Always moving for ward, upward, finding use for such wonder. next century, together with his ad. vance in ‘mind and spirit. should gratefully, accept all ad vance. Our duty is to properly con trol and use it. I have often said, “Man’s mind will be allowed to invent and dis cover as things need be until his knowledge is next to God’s.” It seems sane to assume that all the discoveries allowed to come to man’s mind were steered by the hand of the Creator. All the ad vance of technology is part of a Divine plan and is necessary in order to meet the requirements of man, in the exploding populace that will come about within the You'll Get a Better Buy from F&L Used Cars 302 Tryon Palace Drive ME 7-5700 KEHOE FRIDAY - SATURDAY "FEVER IN THE BLOOD" EFREM ZIMBALIST, JR. Unfortunate indeed Is the terri ble misuse man has channeled this entrusted knowledge, revealed to him in coming upon God’s laws. The purpose of life seems to be: to graduate eventually into a high! er order. Ever moving forward to a higher plane of awareness and understanding. This being the en dowed entent or destiny, Implant ed and steered by man’s Inner self, Being so close to breaking through to the secrets of the su preme intelligence, it would appear that instead of pursuit of the mate rial uses of mass to energy which we have come upon in search of understanding life, soul and spirit, science and religion (which have no real differences), should orien tate themselves and recognize their answer to all the truth they seek rests in their pursuit of spirit, through mind alone and not mat ter. Only in man .can the plan of God be fulfilled and only in God can man’s final goal be realized. Why then should man waste so many years and lives skirting the edges of truth, when now as it has al ways been is to directly find the entity of God that is within him self. This then is the key to the loftiest goal of mankind. His divine purpose of creation. I dare to assunie that research channeled into this area of mind— man will eventually come upon the power to aport to the planets at the speed of thought, and tele portation an accepted fact. Nearly 2000 years ago this power was tapped by one who said: Luke 17:6—“If you had the faith of a grain of mustard seed you might say to this mulberry tree. Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea: gnd it would obey you. (And in other scripture—Matt. 17:20, Mark 9:23, and 11:23, Luke IT:^, I (lor. 12:9 and 13:2.)
