We're in the space age, and no one can visualize what will happen in our lifetime. Not only is there a strong pos sibility that the solar system can be explored. Experts pre dict that our adventuring will extend even further, and in God's universe the stars are said to be as numerous as grains of sand on the beaches of our world. The opportunities for those among us who become experts in probing space and related scientific endeavors are going to be limitless. Wel- ser; "Space Pioneers" by Er ic Frank Russell; "The Con quest of Space, by Willy Ley; "Rockets Through Space" by Lester Del Rey; "First Men To the Moon” by Wernher Von Braun; "The Edge of Space" by Richard A. Craig; "Space Book for Young People" by Homer E. Newell; "Space Cadet" by Robert Helnleln; "Exploration of Space" by Charles Arthur Clarke; "Rock ets, Missiles and Moons" by Charles Ira Coombs; and "A Guide to Astronomy and Space Research." Some of these books may contain material that has be come obsolete in the light of what has been revealed this week. However, it will be in teresting to compare what was believed to be factual, prior to last Sunday, and what really is true. Who knows, among our read ers there may be several per sons who will one day go to the moon or some other planet. Drama became melodrama, with the inevitable villain, when Russia's unmanned space rock et entered the picture. So fur tive was its mission that it breathed its last without a reve lation of its Intentions. Trying to upstage the Ameri can adventure was, it seemed to us, a gamble that at best promised dubious benetlt for the Soviets. Only if Apollo 11 failed did the Russians stand to profit by possibly gathering moon samples and returning them to earth. On the basis of the best in formation available to the gen eral public, Moscow was ill pre pared to make such an attempt. To assume that the Russian vehicle was sent to the moon for any other reason is an as sumption that offersno grounds for belief.
