Now is the time to be receiving them, and we feel sure the postman hates to see this time of year. We always like plenty of flowers, but in order to get food we better plant more things to eat and fewer things to feed the soul. Lettuce may be grown from now until hot summer. It doesn’t kiU easily. Parsley will be ready to eat in 70 days. There is a legend that only mean people can grow, parsley. You never sow it, you merely toss it out. It is bad luck to sow it. Cold doesn’t hurt parsley. Be sure to keep straw on your strawberries. Pinch off the runners, and keep the bed clean. As a gardner, the energy shortage you have to guard against is your own un willingness to exert yourself. The more you work, the better your production will be. How often underneath the sun With childish bounds I used to run To a garden long deserted. The beds and walks were vanished quite; And wheresoe’er had struck the spade. The greenest grasses Nature laid To sanctify her right. I called the place my wilder ness. For no one entered there but I; The sheep looked in, the grass to espy. And passed it ne’ertheless. And spread their boughs enough about To keep both sheep and shepherd out. But not a happy child. Adventurous joy it was for me! I crept beneath the boughs and found A circle smooth of mossy ground Beneath a poplar tree. Old garden rose-trees hedged it in, Bedropt with ro^ waxen- ' white Well satisfied with dew and light And careless to be seen. Long years ago it might befall. When all the garden flowers were trim.
