Peterson and Son has offered excellent merchandise and friendly service to area residents for over 66 years. The business was orsrinally started by the late Bryan C. Peterson and his son, Jather L. Peterson; however, J. L. Peterson took over the business upon his father’s death in 1959. When Peterson’s first opened its doors back in 1923, it stocked only light, dry goods and groceries. Although they have since dropped the groceries, they have added a full line of General Electric major appliances. This includes refriger ators, freezers, washers, dryers, range stoves, and televisions. In addition, Peterson’s services their own appliances. Peterson’s also stocks clothes for men and women. They specialize in men’s work clothes, but ipmfP ••Ml I5SS1 ■i'li that this older building was once a saloon in Vanceboro’s earlier days. The store is still in this very same structure that was built years ago. Mr. Peterson is assisted in the store by his wife, Mrs. Dolly Peterson, his sister. Miss Grace Peter son, and Mrs. Evelyn Waters. The store is located on Main Street in Vanceboro, and their phone number is 244-0240. The store is open from 8:30 to 5:30, Monday through Saturday. Con’t from Page 1 Miss Trina Ricks, bride- elect of July 7, was given a bridal showere in Ernul. Hostesses for the occasion were Mary Hughes, Lynn Hughes, Lori Wethering- ton, Tammy Manning, Gloria Price and Teresa Hughes. Trina was pre sented with utensil cor sage. The mothers of the bride and groom were given a yellow silk rose. The refeshment table was covered with a white cloth and a foral arrange ment. Refreshments of cake squares, mints, nuts, and punch were served to the 27 guests. they offer a variety of clothing, including ladies sportswear and shoes. This latter item caused many inventory problems for them during World War II, when shoes were rationed. Mr. Peterson reports that he had to be certain that ration pair of he sent in the coupons for each shoes sold. Mr. Peterson recalls that when they started to build the building in 1922, they had to first move an older building back off of Main Street.
