West Craven Band Boosters To Have Carnival The West Craven Band Boosters will sponsor a Spring Carnival March 9, 1984 at Vanceboro Farm Life Gym. The Carnival. hours are 6:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Their will be a Country Store, Conces sion, Fish Pond, Dart Throw, and many more games. Support your West Craven High School Band by attending this Carnival. Admission is 254. Band Boosters Will Meet Thursday The West Craven Band Boosters will meet Thursday March 1, 1984 at 7:30 p.m. at the school. Please try to attend this important meeting as the final plans for the Carnival will be discussed. DRIVERS! mnEirsiowi SPORTS By RICHARD D’ELIA New Bern Makes It 12 Straigfht Derrick Johnson returned to New Bern’s line , up to lead them to victories in their final two games of the regular season. New Bern finished one game behind Goldsboro in the regular season standings. New Bern lost the first two games of the season and hasn’t looked back since winning 12 in a row. Goldsboro was one of the teams to beat New Bern, but in their and meeting New Bern Irned the favor giving jldsboro its only loss. Derrick Johnson had 18 points against Hoggard and 32 against Jacksonville as New Bern won both games, 72-62 over Hoggard and 74-55 over JacksnnvillB. West Carteret Takes Coastal 3-A Tournament West Carteret remained unbeaten in the Coastal 3-A conference by breezing by West Craven 70-53 in the semi-final game and squeak ing by D.H. Conley in the Championship game of the Tournament. West Craven beat North Lenoir in overtime to get to the semi-finals. Conley romped over Havelock 64-47 in the other semi-final match up to make their way into the championship game. The West Craven victory filled the fourth and final spot, in the district playoffs. Havlock, North Lenoir and West Craven were tied for third place during regular season. Havelock won a coin toss to get the 3rd place seeding in the tournament an also on automatic district playoff birth. West Craven and North Lenoir met to decide who would advance to the district playoffs. West Carteret and D.H. Conley, the first and second placed teams respectively had already claimed their district births with their regular season records. In the girls’ tournament. North Lenoir beat West Carteret in overtime 67-63 and D.H. Conley 50-43 to take the championship crown to go along with their regular season championship. Wildcat Sports - The West Craven Wildcat boys and girls claimed their respective middle school tournament championships. In the girls first game, the Lady ^mijdcats had 13 people to score fc^hey rampaged to a 45-11 rout of Pamlico. The Lady MWldcats finished the tourna ment by defeating H.J. MacDonald 43-18 to stay undefeated at 14-0 and capture the tournament championship to go with their regular season championship. Linda Gatlin led the Wildcats in the championship game by scoring more than the whole H.J. MacDonald team. Gatlin had 24 points, a career high for her. In the Boys’ tournament, the Wildcats advanced to the finals by eliminating Havelock, in a very defensive game, 39-28. Stevie Harris led all scorers in this game with 12. In the championship game. West Craven had to face H.J. MacDonald also. H.J. gave the Wildcats their only two defeats this year each by two points. The Wildcats led the War Cubs by two 24-22 at half time, but dominated the boards in the Future Farmers Of America Attended Southern Farm Show By HUD WEISS The Future Farmers of America Club of West Craven High School attended the Southern Farm Show at the Raleigh Fairgrounds on Thursday, February 2. Club sponsors, Henry Pasour and Melvin Bright, along with West Craven Highlights, March 1, 1964, Page 7 approximately forty-five students attended. Viewing the farm show gave the F.F.A. members an opportunity to see exhibits such as computers used to improve farming, specialized equipment, and futuristic farm equipment. The students were allowed to visit any exhibit they wanted, but most started their day at the Jim Graham building where most of the exhibits were located. The purpose of the trip was to view the farming equipment of today and to get an idea of how this equipment can be used for better production. Can You Answer These? 1.
