rownies Visit HITNEY the HOBO Brownie Troop 88 went to visit WITNEY the HOBO Saturday. They will appear on the Tuesday and Thursday show. Each one had a very gfood time. Brownies that attended were: Susan Lewis, Sandy Wright, Kristy Wilson, Amy Bryan, Stephanie Wiggins, Amy Wiggins, Neurella Jenkins, Avvina Jenkins, Kim Melton, ^Ptma Thomas. Mrs. Lewis, and Mrs. Wright would like to thank the mothers that drove. The Brownie Troop still has some cookies for sale. If you would like them, please contact one of our girls. Who Went Where? Mae Cleve, Emma Ruffin, and Hazel Cannon went to Washington, N.C on Saturday and had dinner. Charlotte Knighten and Mae Cleve were in New Bern on Sunday. Strawberry Festival/ Rescue Day Citizens are reminded to get their applications in for this year's festival. Remember any money making booth can be set up by any group or individual for just a ten dollar registration fee. Space is being assigned on a first come, first served basis. West Craven Highlights, March 22,1984, Page 9 COOKING REBA MITCHELL In a previous article, I had a recipe for sour dough bread and the starter. Shortly after I was given a recipe for Herman Cake. I discovered the same starter is used for the cake as for the bread. Due to requests, I am now presenting the recipe for Herman Cake. HERMAN CAKE The above picture which was in last week’s issue is Troop 299 instead of Troop 68. 1 cup starter 2 eggs 2/3 cup oil 1 Yz tsp. cinnamon 1 cup sugar 2 cups plain flour Yz tsp. salt 2 tsp. baking powder V/z tsp. baking soda 1 cup chopped nuts 1 cup raisins 1 cup coconut (if desired) Mix at medium speed. Pour into greased and floured pan (13" X 9") or 2-(8" x 8" pans). Sprinkle with topping. Bake at 360 degrees for 30 to 46 minutes. Glaze while hot. TOPPING 1 tbsp. flour 1 cup brown sugar 1 tbsp. cinnamon cup margarine Mix until crumbly GLAZE 1 cup confectioners sugar , 2 tbsp. milk 2 tbsp. margarine A car driven by Audrey Toler went out of control and flipped over on the Streets Ferry Road Monday morning.
