Those towns were Vanceboro and Havelock according to Tommy Thomp son, the committee’s secretary- treasurer. The Craven Committee of 100 was established as d non profit group. The group began with 100 members including representation from Vance boro. The purpose is to give support to the Craven County Industrial Commission. Thompson, who is the executive director of the CCIC, stated the committee has brought approximately 15 M in new industry to Craven County. Among those in dustries is Major Laminations Company which has located in Vanceboro. The committee has located Stanadyne Corporation in the Park and sold one shell building to an industry. Another shell building has been erected by Davidson Jones Construction Co. The committee provides transportation, entertain ment, and other expenses for industry prospects that visit Craven County. The expenses are not taken from tax money, but comes totally from the committee, according to Thompson. In 1975 the population of the County was 69,500 and in 1983 the population had increased to 72,000. The 1975 count showed 3,060 manufacturing jobs and that figure is currently set at 5,000 jobs.
