Page 4, West Craven Highlights, May 10, 1984 CHURCH Vanceborq Pentecostal Holiness Church By ALMA DRAKE MOTHER-DAUGHTER BANQUET The Christian Education Department of the Vanceboro Pentecostal Holiness Church sponsored the Annual Mother- Daughter Banquet Thursday night, May 3, 1984. C.E. Director Harold Drake gave the welcome and expressed his appreciation to everyone attending. Rev. James Norton, pastor, blessed the food. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal consisting of turkey, dressing, giblet gravy, cranberry sauce, string beans, mashed potatoes, rolls, congealed strawberry dessert, cake squares, and tea. The food was prepared by the Woman’s Auxiliary, served by the men and two young boys - Gregg Fulcher and Patrick Troutner. Sister Pauline Waters led the games—the balloons bursting challenge between mother and daughter and dropping clothes pins into a small mouth jug. Mrs. Alma Drake, Mistress of ceremonies, led the congregation in singing“Mother Loves Me”, a song she composed the year her mother died. Sister Peggy Evans accompanied her on the piano. Sister Ruth Morris was guest speaker and gave the devotion. Her text was taken from Proverbs 31:10-31. She gave an interesting sermon on, “The Love of A Mother.” Sister Ruth Wiggins, Sister Pauline Waters, and Sister Alma Drake sang, “If I could Hear My Mother Pray Again.” The door prize was won by Rhonda Fulcher; prizes were given to the oldest mother. Sister Augusta Wilson; youngest mother. Sister Wanda D. Toler; youngest grandmother. Sister Alma Drake. The banquet was held in the Dave Fulcher Fellowship Halls. Tables were decorated with white covering, with white bud vases with yellow roses, green lighted candles and green ivy. The center table was decorated with a yellow and orange floral arrangement, green lighted candles, two white doves and ivy. A yellow blanket edged with green crepe paper held the theme “A Mother’s Love Is Next To God’s Love.” Sister Vila Norton gave the invocation. We the C.E. Board wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. REVIVAL Revival Services will begin Monday night, May 14,1984 at the Vanceboro Pentecostal Holiness Church. Services will begin 7:30 p.m. each night. There will be special singing. The guest minister will be Rev. Bobby Howard from Beaufort Pentecostal Holiness Church. His wife is the former Janie Anderson of Vanceboro. Rev. James Norton, pastor, welcomes everyone to attend WA’s MEET The Woman’s Auxiliary of the Vanceboro Pentecostal Holiness Church met Tuesday night. May 1, at the home of Sister Marietta Fulcher. The service began with Praise Time. Prayer requests were given, and prayer was led by Sister Letha Wilson. Sister Vila Norton gave the program. She chose as her Text Matt. 9:37-38. Her topic was Missions. Sister Brenda Manning, Sec. & Treas., read the minutes and they were approved. The BBQ chicken dinner held in April was a success. May 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Jerry Campbell, Sunday School Supt., welcomed everyone - each family brought supper, which all shared - picnic style. Rev. Bennett gave the invocation. After the supper, a talent show was presented. Each family or group participated in their own talent in their own special way. The little newly formed “Band” was a highlight of the evening, which consists of the youth choir - also presented were poems, songs and recitations by the adults - all joined in singing “The More We Get Together the Happier We’ll Be.” In closing. Rev. Bennett gave the benediction after which everyone joined in the Fellowship Circle and sang “Blest Be The Tie That Binds.” Macedonia F. W. B. Church Dr. JOHN BENNETT TO SPEAK ON ABORTION Dr. John Bennett will be the guest speaker for the evening worship service at Macedonia Original F.W.B. Church, Ernul, Sunday, May 13, 1984. The service will begin at 7:30. Dr. Bennett’s topic will be abortion. It will be a slide presentation with narra,tion. A discussion period will follow with questions from the congregation. Dr. Bennett practiced medicine successfully for 20 years in Harrisburgh, PA, before coming to New Bern in 1979. He is married and has four children, two of whom are in college. He is a member of Faith Evangelical Church, Newport, N.C. and the Gideon International. He has been a strong supporter of the National Right to Life movement for the past nine years. Presenlty, Dr. Bennett is Occupational Health Physician for the Marine Corps Air Station, Na rf Division, Cherry Point, N.C., a position he has held for the past three years. The Layman’s League and the Ladies Auxiliary of Macedonia join with the congregation in arranging Dr. Bennett’s visit to the Ernul community. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the benediction. Topic - Abortion Slide presentation - Narration - Discussion Everyone invited Tabernacle Holiness # Church On May 11, 1984, the Tabernacle Ladies Auxiliary met at the church for their monthly meeting. The meeting was started in song. Each one had a song they wanted to sing. We then went to pray, praying for the sick and concern for the lost. Testimony service was led by Glenda Lewis. President Sister Audrey Toler brought the message. Reading I Samuel, concerning Hannah. Discussed the baby shower Glenda Lewis. Names of siOT were taken so get well cards would be sent. We then dismissed in song, “Watching You”. And surely an ever seeing eye is watching all of us. Be ready. 4ci|()|c)k4( On May 11,1984 at 7:30 p. m. at the Fellowship Hall of the Tabernacle Holiness Church, the Ladies Auxiliary will be giving Mrs. Glenda Lewis a baby shower. Come and Let's celebrate the occasion. Glenda Lewis Kitt Swamp Christian Church REVIVAL Kitt Swamp Christian Church will hold a Spring Revival May 14-18. Services begin at 7:45 each evening, and there will be special music throughout the week. Everyone is invited. HOMECOMING On Sunday, May 20, Homecoming will be celebrat ed.
