m ADVANCED TELEPHONE have a problem, they should dail the operator. People calling from public telephones in Vanceboro will still need to dial "O" for a long distance call. However, after dialing "O" they can dial the number direct without giving it to the operator. There is no charge for customers to call repair service, emergency O or 911 service, or any 800 number, when dialing these calls from public telephones. To make local calls from public telephones in Vance boro, people will continue to make calls as they presently do by depositing their money after the party answers. Calling Cards Persons using Calling Cards to place calls from U-touch telephones can benefit from another feature of TSPS. If a customer subscribes to U-touch service and dials "O" plus (area code if required) a seven-digit number from a U- touch telephone, a special tone will sound in the receiver (and an announcement if from a public telephone). After the tone, the person simply keys in his 14-digit Calling Card number. The call then is connected and billed—by computer. The caller does not have to recite the Calling Card number to the operator, saving time and providing greater security. Public telephone calls billed to a third party or number required approval by the third party, but customers using Calling Cards never have to worry about billing accep tance. In addition, customers EQUIPMENT Continued from page 1 will not have to be concerned about having correct change. Calling Card calls that are customer-dialed station-to- station are billed at lower rates than operator handled calls. Customers who do not subscribe to U-touch service will not hear the tone and will have to recite the Calling Card number to the operator. U-Touch service is available in Vanceboro. Customers can get a Calling Card by contacting a Carolina Telephone business office. International DDD Just as TSPS makes calling easier in the United States, it will make international calling easier. Currently, when customers want to make an international call, they must dial "O" and have the operator connect them with the international operator. With TSPS, customers in Vanceboro will be able to dial direct to most foreign countries. A listing for many foreign countries and cities will be included in the next directory. This same listing is available now from the business office serving these communities.
