The funeral service was conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Vanceboro and burial was in Celestial Memorial Gardens. Mr. Elks, a native of Pitt County, lived in the Frog Level community until 1959 when he moved to Craven County. He was a farmer. He is survived by his wife, » Shirley Kite Elks; five Danny Elks, Carl Lee Elks, Henry Elks and Robert CHESTER ELKS Elks, all of Vanceboro, and Bobby Elks of Chocowinity; two daughters: Mrs. Peggy Heath of Greenville and Mrs. Linda Etheridge of Choco winity; two step-sons: Stanley and Preston Kite, both of Vanceboro; one brother, Sam E. (Dinky) Elks of Greenville: four sisters: Mrs. Betty Braxton of Greenville, Mrs. Mabel Strickland of Bell Arthur, Mrs. Hazel Brown of Winterville, and Mrs. Adelle Nichols of Conetoe; fourteen grandchild ren: one great grandchild and one step-grandchild. The eyes of the four-eyed fish of Central and South America are most unusual. These fish swim on the sur face of the water. The upper half of their eyes are adapted for seeing in air, the lower half for seeing in water. EffieGerusia Witherington (1858-1907) married Nathan H. Whitford and had Lawrence Kensy Whitford Who married Minnie Adams, Adrion J. Whitford who married Amanda Whitford, Bluma Whitford who married Herman Coward, Zeb Olamon Whitford who married Alice Autry, Rosa Highlights, November'IS, 1984, PagVS Whitford and an infant son who died. 3.
