Page 4, West Craven Highlights, November 22, 1984 Woman’s Auxiliary Honors Senior Citizens By ALMA DRAKE Pentecostal Holiness Church On Saturday afternoon, Nov. 17.1984, the Woman's Auxiliary of the Vanceboro Pentecostal Holiness Church honored its Senior Citizens with a candlelight Thanksgiving supper. The meal consisted of turkey, dressing, gravy, string beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, tea and assorted desserts. Sister Pauline Waters, W.A. President, welcomed each one. Sister Vila Norton, pastor’s wife, was presented a birthday gift from the W.A.’s. Rev. James H. Norton, pastor, blessed the food. The meal was enjoyed by everyone attending. Brother Lee Waters and Sister Pauline Waters were MC’s for the event. Brother Waters introduced the entertainers^ “The Tubbers", a musical comedy. They were dressed larger than normal size; they talked, sang, and played their instruments Hillbilly style. The act brought lots of laughter. The cast was as follows: Lulu - by Sister Marietta Fulcher, Nettiepoo - Sister Jeannette Boyd, Minniepoo - Sister Alma Drake, Peetsiepoo - Sister Pauline Waters and Pegleg by Sister Peggy Evans. The supper was held in the Rev. Dave Fulcher Fellowship Hall which was decorated in the Thanksgiving theme. We thank the Lord for our senior citizens who’ve paved the way and have been an example and still are very useful with advice and attending church. Happy Anniversary was sung to Brother and Sister Bill Mitchell who were celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary. A special was rendered by Sister Nora Hancock and Sister Vila Norton. Sister Pauline introduced our guest speaker, the Rev. W.S: (Bill) List, our week-end evangelist, a missionary to Africa. He quoted two beautiful poems. His sermon was about Joshua and Caleb. They didn’t let their age stop them from serving the Lord and neither should we. Caleb asked for a mountain at 85 His main thought was -“If God is with me. I can do a lot for God regardless of age." We can always pray for one another and encourage one another even if we can’t leave our homes. Prayer will make the difference in a home, community, a nation and church growth. Rev. and Mrs. List and Rev. and Mrs. Norton sat at the guest table. Rev. Norton, pastor expressed his appreciation to each one that took a part in making this a great succes. God Bless each one of you, and a Happy Thanksgiving to everyone from the WA’s. Revival Held The Vanceboro Pentecostal Holiness Church was honored to have from St. Augustine, Fla., the Rev. W.S. List and his lovely wife. Sister Jessie. Rev. List served 25 years in Africa The Revival was Friday-Sunday night, Nov. 16-18. Those attending enjoyed the wonderful messages and stories he told about events on the mission field. On Sunday night we enjoyed slides and the marvelous stories told about each one. Every Christian should pray daily and support those on the mission fields. We pray Brother List can come back in the near future. It was very inspiring and food for thought; it helped us to count our blessings. AVON OPEN HOUSE LaRue Lancaster’s Home Saturday, November 24th, 1984 9:00 a.m. til COME SHOP FOR CHRISTMAS Vanceboro Christian Church Project Compieted The C.W.F. of the Vanceboro Christian Church held its regular meeting on Nov. 14, 1984 at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Betty Rose Crawford, the president, presided and extended a welcome to all. Mrs. Nell Hill, program chairman, introduced Mrs. Adeline Cutler of New Bern to be the guest speaker of the evening. She played “Family of God” on the piano and then followed with the theme - saying that we belong to different churches but we’re all the family of God - one of the main things that we should try to do, she pointed out, is our working together - Goals of Church Women United and C.W.F. are about the same - unity - There is a combined effort of working together to make clothes etc. for the needy. She explained that Thanksgiving is really Thanksliving - do we give - share or just take? We’re told - freely receive - freely give - what do we give - money? We’re not only to give money - but our time - our talents. She told a story about a little boy and a tree - How the little boy always took and the tree always gave - The tree gave its all - its apples, a limb to swing on - shade, lumber for a boat etc. The tree was always happy. The tree was cheerful - Mrs. Cutler brought out the ClflIIIPICDS cerKfucn/ point - the art in giving - a cheerful attitude - We’re to give with joy and enthusiasm - Being cheerful keeps us young - stay “constructively" busy - work for worthy causes - it will be for our good - we give of our selves when we help someone else. She said remember Thanksgiving is Thanksliving During the business session - the nominating committee presented the following slate of offices - Pres. Betty Rose Crawford: Vice-Pres.
