School of Science and Mathematics will be in Jones County on Thursday, Dec. 13 to present a program on the state school for academically gifted students in Durham. An admissions officer at the School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) will conduct an informal information session on the school s educational program and admissions • process at Jones Senior High School in Trenton. The session will igin at 11:30 a.m_. Anyone wanting to know more about NCSSM is welcome, but 10th graders and their parents are especially invited to attend. NCSSM students are selected during their high school sophomore year for admission the following fall. Applications for admission next year are due Jan. 31, 1985. The N.C. School of Science and Mathematics, which opened in 1980, is a public, residential school serving academically gifted 11 th and 12th grade students with a special interest and potential in math and science. The co-educational school charges no tuition or room and board fees. About 400 students attend the school, representing 85 North Carolina counties. For more information about the session, contact the Jones Senior High School Counseling Office. West Craven Middle School Beautification Project West Craven Middle School Prevocational classes and the School Beautification Interest Day Group have started to work on the 1984-85 North Carolina School Beautification project. Under the direction of Ms. Jo Ann Riddle, teacher, the students have trimmed the shrubbery, weeded the flowers, and added pine bark mulch to the flower beds. The students are very excited about the new projects planned for this year. West Craven Middle ; Christmas Concert Planned The West Craven Middle School Music Department will be hosting its annual Christmas Concert on Thursday evening December 13, starting at 7 p.m. The lM|prus and bands will be ^[pfQrrping Christmas music of conter^porary and traditional styles. The chorus has appr^trnately 75 beautiful voices atnd the band has approximately 150 combined players consisting of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels. The public is cordialiy invited to attend this event. The marching band will be participating in the New Bern Christmas parade on Sunday, December 16, starting at 3 p.m. This group is composed of 95 students. Hoping to see you there. On this day during seventh and eighth periods, the students attend the twenty- six different activities designed to create awareness and interest in new areas.
