Page 14, West Craven HighllghtSj December 13,1984 Pro Musica Concert Dec. 14 & 15 The 24-member chorus, under the artistic direction of Pat RowlQtt, is creating the program as a community Christmas celebration design ed to tie in to Tryon Palace's Eighteenth Century Chrismtas condlelight tours. Rowlett has compiled a varied program with traditional favorites, a Bach cantata, and modern and comic selections. Through the evening, the members of Pro Musica will be performing as concert singers, accompaniment to a slide show, carolers, and a "family” around the Christmas tree. Rowlette is being assisted in CANDLELIGHT CAROLS by Cindy Sutton, accompanist; and instrumentalists from the area and from East Carolina University accompanying the Bach cantata. In keeping with the “family Christmas” concept, the prices of tickets for this concert have been lowered to $4 for adults, $3.50 for senior citizens and $2.50 for students. With the concert produced at New Bern Civic Theater’s Saax Bradbury Playhouse (Pollock Street), area residents can attend the candlelight tours at the palace (from 5 to 8 p.m.) and still attend the Pro Musica concert (with curtain at 8:15 p.m.) For more Christmas festivities, there is the annual Christmas parade on Dec. 16 in the downtown area. Mrs. William Bryan Aldridge Jane Davis Whitley of Vanceboro and William Bryan Aldridge of New Bern were united in marriage at 2 p.m. on November 24 at the home of the bride’s sister, Barbara Whitley of Greensboro,- North Carolina. The Rev. Charles H. Reckard of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, officiated. CCC Students Awarded Community College Scholarship Eight Craven Community Coiiege students were recently awarded North Carolina Community Coiiege scholarships valued at $400.00 per year. Those receiving the schoiarship and their curriculum programs are; William C. Brame, New Bern; Pre-Engineering Brenda Brown, New Bern; Educational Assistant Jean Brown, Havelock; Pre-Liberal Arts Nancy Danes, New Bern; Drafting and Design Technology Jennifer Horton, Maysville; Business Computer Programming Erlinda Jones, New Bern; General Education Carla Little, Beaufort; Accounting Amerle Ollennu, Newport; Pre-science The North Carolina Community College Scholarship Program was established in September, 1984, and provides 500 scholarships to needy students enrolled in the 58 institutions that comprise the community college system. It is directed toward students with financial need, minorities, black students enrolled in college transferable curriculum programs, displaced persons seeking new job skills, and women in non-traditional curriculum programs. The purpose of the program is to make educational funds available to those who have been hit hardest by the rising cost of education. Address ' City/State The ceremony was conducted near a stairway covered wil^ festoons of evergreen gathered with large ivory bows each intwined with miniature pink carnations and evergreen. The wedding party was flanked by seven-branched candelabra. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alton F. Whitley of Vanceboro, N.C. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilber B. Aldridge of New Bern, N.C. Nuptial piano arrangements were performed by Ms. Catherine Black of Greensboro, who also sang “I Love Thee” by Grieg. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an ivory tea- length gown of silk applique. She carried a bouquet of ivory ros6s and French Vanilla carnations. She was attended by.,her sister, Madge Whitley Morris of Greensboro, who wore an ivory ensemble and carried a bouquet of pink alstroemeria. The groom’s brother, John Aldridge of New Orleans, LA was best man. The home was decorated throughout with arrangement^^ pink snapdragons, pale and medium pink carnatioris, wMp chrysanthemums; and pink and yellow alstroemeria. The three-tiered cake was encircled with evergreen and pink miniature carnations and topped with a nosegay of pink miniature carnations and alstroemeria. Refreshments consisted of wedding cookies, chicken salad in pattie shells, roasted pecans, ham biscuits, pimento cheese sandwiches and punch. During the reception music was provided by Ms. Black, pianist, and Laura Aldridge, violinist, niece of the groom. After the reception Mr. & Mrs. Aldridge departed on a honeymoon trip to the North Carolina Mountains. BRIDAL SHOWER Mrs. Bill Aldridge, the former Miss Jane Whitley, was honored on Thursday night, Nov. 29th in the Fellowship Hall of the Vanceboro Christian Church. The hostesses for the event were Mrs. Clara Lou Ipock, Mrs. Ida Pearl Buck, Mrs. Barbara Lynn Gaskins, Mrs. Doris White, and Mrs. Betty Rose Crawford. They welcomed the guests upon arrival. The guest of honor and her mother, Mrs. Alton Whitley and Mrs. Ellen Aldridge, mother of the groom were presented beautiful mum corsages. The group enjoyed playing Bride-Bingo. The hostesses led thehonoreetoa table laden with many beautiful gifts. After the opening of the gifts, she graciously thanked each and everyone and invited all to visit her and Bill. The guests were then invited to the refreshment table that was covered with a white linen cloth and centered with a vari-colored fall arrangement of lovely flowers, flanked: by lighted golden tapers. Cake squares, nut^ and mints were in array. Mrs. Doris White poured punch. Good-byes were said by the hostesses.
