'88 LUNCH Christmas At The Palace Visiting students admire hand-crafted ornaments on a Christmas tree in the drawing room of the historic Tryon Palace Commission House. The 10th annual Tryon Palace Christmas celebration runs Dec. 8 through Dec. 21. Along The Pathway By REBA W. MITCHELL Along the pathway of life there are people who feel they have nothing to thank God for. It is true starving, hungry, homeless people find it hard to even hope or to be thankful. Throughout this Thanksgiving week, as we enjoy our bles- sings, we should be thankful for our bountiful supply, not only by thanking the Lord but by remembering others that are not so fortunate. We should remember them not only in prayer but by lending them a helping hand as much as possible. It is good to remember those in prayer that are in need, but we need to share our bountiful supplies with them. Thank sgiving is not the only time to be thankful and share our blessings. We should be thankful and share throughout the entire year. God in his word teaches us to be thankful. 1st Thessolonians 5:18 says, “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." He also tells us if we see our brother in need and shut up our bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him. That is not stopping with brothers only, that means anyone in need. God does not have respect of persons, and we should not either. We should have compassion and help the stranger that is in need, no matter what the need is. Jesus said in His word if we fail the least of them, then we have failed Him also. Don’t let Thanksgiving, thoughtfullness, lending a helping hand, sharing and compassion end with the day of Thanksgiv ing this week. Let those .actions continue through our entire lives. Our work is not done until we lay down this earthly life and go to meet our master. As it has been said, we have to get the hay in while the sun shines. The word of God tells us Jesus said he must work while it is day for the night comes when no man works. Therefore, we must use the opportunity that is at hand or it will pass and many times second chances do not come. Watch or someone will may slip away that we could have lightened the load for. We can reach the place we can no longer work or the end of our lives. Then it will be too late. We cannot come back to do the deeds we have before us today. Let’s take this Thanksgiving spirit and use opportunities on into Christmas, New Year’s and the balance of our lives to share our blessings and time with others. 5 SAUAA|C PiltA Twra SaIa4 ?«CAt9tt ApplAAAUCA IteccoU >UnA|tr Cboict Cookie ^ Chicken Hufgfte } 7 Cheeevburgci Seliihury Stcek U/kice I SeKrkrd Seueat;! MITCHELL With the Thanksgiving meal over and leftovers still around, the question is ever present. Is there something different to do with leftovers? In many homes leftovers soon find an unwelcome place at the table. We hear the old phrase, “no, not again.” This day and time food costs make us try to find a different way to present leftovers. 1 tsp. Halt 2 lo 3 lableHpooitH melled butter Turkey in Buns Vs cup catsup 1 tsp. sail 1 cup currant jelly Vi tsp. garlc salt Vi cup finely chopped onion 3 cups cooked, iliced turkey 2 tbs. Worcestershire sauce Combine all ingredients except turkey in a heavy saucepan. Simmer about 20 minutes. Stir in turkey. Spoon onto toasted, buttered buns. ■ ■ ■ Refrigerated Potato Rolls 2 medium potatoes, peeled and quartered 2 packages dry yeast V2 cup warm water (105 to 115 degrees) 5 to 6 cups all'purpose flour 1 cup milk 2/3 cup vegetable oil Vs cup sugar 2 eggs Cook potatoes in boiling water to cover 15 minutes or until tender. Mash enough potatoes to make one cup. Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large mixing bowl and let stand five minutes. Add one cup mashed potatoes, 2 cups flour, milk and next four ingredients. Beat at medium speed with electric mixer until smooth. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Place dough into a well-greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover and refrigerate at least 8 hours or up to four days before shaping. Remove the desired amount from refrigerator. Turn dough out on a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic. Roll dough into 1-inch thickness and cut with a 2-inch cutter. Place rolls 2 inches apart on a lightly-greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise in a warm place free from drafts (about P5- degrees) for 1 to 2 hours or until doubled in size. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with butter. Note: To freeze, wrap rolls in aluminum foil and place in a freezer bag. You may keep them in a freezer up to 2 months. To reheat, let thaw almost at room temperature. Place rolls on lightly-greased baking sheet, cover with foil and bake at 400 degrees 10 minutes or until thoroughly heated.
