The Student Body and Faculty
of Saint Mary’s extend sympathy
to Helen Davis on the death of her
father.
The ODT Requests
All Saint Mary’s agreed to tlie
fact that we wanted a spring vaca
tion, but many, including 80 per
cent of the Seniors, wanted more to
give it up if doing so would help the
American war effort in any way.
The local ODT said that it would
help; the Washington ODT said
that 300 additional travelers would
not matter.
But now the request has been is
sued that some 300,000 students all
over the country give up their vaca
tions so that men and materials may
be transported. We did not hack
our jiatriotism with action before,
but now we are hardly in the posi
tion to defy the Government author
ity. And can we stand, as patriotic
citizens, and fail to comply with a
Government request ?
Our Part In Victory
The American flag now flies over
the liberated prison camps and burn
ing buildings of Manila—MacAr-
thur has returned.
Eussian troops stand almost in
sight of the outskirts of Berlin, and
Allied forces hammer more success
fully on the Western Front.
The “Big Three” are meeting
again, this time to discuss the ending
of the war and the coming of the
peace.
Yes, we have seen the passing of
the “end of the beginning” and the
“beginning of the end.” Soon, per
haps, we will see the end—the end
of hostilities, but the heginning of
the peace.
Our men and our allies will be
responsible for the coming military
victory. Their sacrifices will have
paid the price. But our fight will
be just beginning with the coming
of peace. It is the duty, the privi
lege, of the women of the country
