The Sigma Lambda and E. A. P.
Literary Societies had their annual
joint banquet at the S & W Cafe
teria on Tuesday night, May 22.
Sally Ann Elliott was mistress of
ceremonies and Mary Arden Tucker,
Margaret Rodwell, Fabian Wads
worth, and Lucy Seaman made up
the program committee.
The Banquet was conducted as a
World Wide News Broadcast with
well-known commentators from all
parts of the world giving their
roundups of the news in the form
of toasts. These toasts were given
from time to time during the meal,
but only after Mary Pinckney had
given “the following transcribed an
nouncement.” Dr. Pepper, Colgates,
Montlawn Memorial Park, none of
them escaped her attention. Roberta

Saint Alary’s one hundred and
third annual commencement begins
tonight with the presentation of As
I ou Like It by the Dramatic Club
under the direction of Aliss Florence
C. Davis.
The entire student body will assem
ble on Saturday morning at eight-
thirty in order to practice for the
commencement procession on Alon-
day. Sophomore Class Day will begin
at eleven o’clock on the front campus
with the class procession from
Smedes. Sarah Bain, president of
the sophomore class, will welcome
the guests; this is followed by the
class singing the Alma Alater. Caro
line AIcGuirk will read the class roll,
after which Alarietta Duke will give
the class prophecy. Frankie Sham-
burger win present the Ideal Saint
Alary’s Girl, followed by Alartha
Conger reading the Last Will and
Testament. Airs. Cruikshank will
present the award to the sophomore
with the highest scholastic average.
After the presentation of the class
gift by Sarah Bain, Jean Ricken-
baker will accompany the class song.
The Rev. Air. I. Harding Hughes,
chaplain, will pronounce the closing
benediction.
The Alumnae Association will
meet in the Hut at two-thirty on
Saturday afternoon, followed by
Senior Class Day exercises in the
Auditorium at four o’clock. Sallie
Robertson, president of the senior
class, will welcome the guests, after
which the class will sing “The Belles
of Saint Alary’s.” Jane Peete will
call the roll of the seniors, followed
by the Senior Class History read by
Mary Arden Tucker. The Senior
Class Prophecy will be read by Ruth
Hayes and the Last Will and Testa
ment by Nancy Wood. Sue Moore
will read the class poem, and Ann
Cutts will present the senior superla
tives. Kate Broadfoot, student body
president for ’45, will inaugurate
Kathryn Fulton of Roanoke, Va., as
the president for ’46, followed by the
presentation of the class gift by Sal
lie Robertson. Airs. Cruikshank will
award the monograms, and C. A. P.
Moore, head of the English Depart
ment, will give publication awards
and the English Competitive Prize.
Sue Moore, editor of the Stage
Coach, will dedicate the annual, fol
lowed by the class singing “Good
bye, School.” Air. Hughes will dose
Die program with the benediction.
Following the program, guests are
invited to attend the art and com
mercial exhibits and the reception
for the seniors. A student music re
cital will be held in the auditorium
on Saturday night at eight-thirty.
