Juniors chosen as her assistants
are Debbie Connor, Vice-president;
Nancy Smith, Secretary; and Coles
Cathcart, Treasurer.
^ Beth, from Bluefield, West Vir
ginia, is a graduate of the high
school department of St. Mary’s. In
her sophomore year she was Presi
dent of her class. Vice-president of
the Dramatic Club, a choir mem
ber, a Bulletin staff member, and a
Beacon member. This year Beth is
President of the Dramatic Club and
Vice-president of the Mus.
Debbie comes from Charlotte for
her third year at St. Mary’s. In
’52-’53 she was President of her
Preshman Class and in ’53-’54 she
was Secretary-treasurer of the Bea
con. She is a swimming instructor
and a member of the YDC, YWCA,
Altar Guild, and Dramatic Club.
Nancy comes from Connecticut
and is also a third year man. Last
year she was in the choir and was a
member of the Bulletin staff and
Beacon. This year she is President
of the letter Club, and a member of
the choir. Dramatic Club, and Glee
Club.
Coles comes from Dreher High
School in Columbia, South Carolina.
She IS in the choir and in Orchesis
In her senior year at high schooi
she was Treasurer of the Student
Body, President of_ the Inter-city
Student Council, Vice-president of
the Donor Society, and President of
the xPSL of her church. For four
years Coles was Provincial Youth
Commissioner of the Province of
Sewanee.

The sophomore legislative body
member is Betsy Duke from Greens
boro. She is a member of the Glee
Club, the Choir, the Dramatic Club,
the Altar Guild, the Beacon, the Let
ter Club, the Canterbury Club, and
the Belles. Betsy is a cheerleader
for the Mus.
The underclassman Honor Council
member is Coleman Jenkins from
Kinston. Besides reporting for the
Belles, she is a member of the Can
terbury Club and the Beacon. Cole
man is vice-president of the Grand
daughters’ Club.
The sophomore dance marshals are
Patsy Beams from Martinsville, Va.,
and Mickie Crumj)ler from Mebane.
Sigmas and Mus
Elect Cheerleaders
A large number of girls tried out
for cheerleaders this year. Competi
tion was close so that losers and
winners alike enjoyed the try-outs,
the winning cheerleaders will be
announced later.
Voted leaders of the Sophomore
Class, the following girls have taken
office: Barry Bowen, a resident of
Gastonia, N. C., assumed the office
of president on October 12. Barry
is secretary-treasurer of the YWCA,
president of the Beacon, a member
of the Glee Club, Orchesi:, and the
Belles staff. She is a Sigma.

Walker from Roanoke, Va. She is
a member of the YDC, YVfC4 "the
Dramatic Club, Belles staff, and the
Stagecoach staff. Jane is a Sigma.

Granddaughters’ Club and the YDC.
Katy Cojip was elected treasurer.

Freshman Class
The new Freshman Class got off
to a good Sturt this year by electing

Cobb, president; Nelson Blount,
vice-president; IBarbara Buening',
secretary; and Sally Underhill,
treasurer.
Caroline is from Goldsboro. In
addition to her activities as presi
dent, she is a member of the YDC
the Canterbury Club, Dramatic
Club, and the Mus.
Nelson is from Greenville and is
interested in the Dramatic Club

She is a Sigma.
Barbara, from Charlotte, belongs
to Orchesis, the YWCA, the Canter

New Members
Seniors Receive SMC
Highest School Honor
On its first midnight walk of the
school year, the Circle, honor society
o± the junior college department of
y. Mary’s, inducted three new mem
bers. Membership in the Circle is
one of the most coveted honors at
tainable at St. Mary’s. The girls
who were tapped on Tuesday, Octo-
ei 12, are Martha Good, Margot
Hammond, and Betty Martin.
A member of the Senior Class
Betty is President of the Day Stu
dents, President of Orchesis, and
\ ice-president of the Dramatic Club.
Martha, a native of Richmond,
Virginia, is the 1954-55 editor of
the Belles. She was recently elected
to serve as Treasurer of the Circle.
Maltha is a member of hall council
and a Sigma,
Among Alargot’s activities, she
holds the offices of Secretary of the
Student Government Association,
Secretary of the Honor Council, and
hall counsellor. She is a member of
the YWCA, Orchesis, the Bulletin,
and the Stage Coach.
Other members of the Circle in
clude Virginia Lilly, President;
Sissie Dawson, Secretary; Anne
Wallace, Harriett Mardre, Jane
Best, and Sara Walters.
The business students also elected
their officers for the year. Julianne
Boone, from Raleigh, was elected
president. Julianne was one of the
lovelies in the May Court last year
and is a member of the Mus.
Betty Huffines, from Fayetteville,
was elected vice-president and is also
a member of the Mus.
Elizabeth Martin (better known as
Lizzy) was elected to the office of
secretary. Lizzy is a member of the
YDC, Granddaughters’ Club, YW
CA, and Doctors’ Daughters’ Club.
Her home is in Charlotte.
Barbara Brown, from Rocky
Mount, was elected treasurer. Bar-
bai a is a member of the Sigmas and
the YWCA.
Stage Coach Editor
Announces New Staff
To perform the many literary and
business chores of the Stage Coach,
Pat McQueen, editor of the annual,
has selected her staff which will be
gin to function immediately. Serv
ing Pat as assistant editor is Marie
Tyler. Art work is under the direc
tion of Barbara Doar, while the
sports department is headed by Ann
Marie Molloy. Class editors, headed
hy Ann Winslow, are as follows:

activities editor, Mary Ruth Mitch
ell; junior co-editors, Ruth Watkins
and Betsy Wright; sophomore co
editors, Barbara Spangler and Har
riett James; freshman editor, Teddy

Smith. Blanche Robertson heads the
literary staff, and Libby Reese serves
as divisions editor. Mary Louise
Bizzell is responsible for compiling
the activities section of the annual,
while the task of supervising the
typing for the entire Stage Coach
falls to Dee Dee DeVere, head typist.
