In fact, there are a few things they’re dying to leave behind to the lingering frosh 11 juniors. Ximocks and Virginia Lilly pass on their perfect set-up over in East Hock to two more Fayetteville chicks, Carol Oates and Louise Howell. Lane n Sugar leave their Raleigh- Annapolis jdane schedules to Caro lyn Wise with hopes that she’ll make trequent use of them. Lucy McPherson leaves her rusty alarm clock to any poor child who’s ivilling to get up before the heat comes clanking on just to study Eng lish history. ^ Sara Walters and Lillian Whitner 1‘eluctantly withdraw their brilliant carrot-tops from St. Mary’s roster of t’edheads; however, they confiden tially leave their places to “Eeds” Hartsock, Smith, and Bueiiing. And then there’s Mar-ah-got Ham- hiond who is leaving Patti String- tellow part of her drawl simply be cause she can’t wait long enough for all of it to catch up with her. Helen Corbett nostalgically leaves eleste Fountain the middle pay hhone—to be used expressly for calls to Carolina. Betsy Duke leaves Pat Coulter her ability to arrange her schedule so that she’ll have lots of sunporch time next year. Franees Pearson leaves her aching teet to any news-conscious Belle who t'aiits to get her morning exercise delivering the News and Observer. And finally Martha Good leaves 20o Holt stocked with typewriters and red pencils for Barbara Doar and Ann Dorris to use the night before the Belles goes to press. Wright Heads Sigma Pi Alpha Betsy Wright ivas elected presi dent of the Sigma Pi Alpha for the coming year. The secretary-treas urer will be chosen at an early meet ing next year. Betsy is a member of Orchesis, the Dramatics Club and the Stage Coach staff. She is also one of the chief eopyreaders for the Belles. r«»n Dewey Owens Hometown; Atlanta, Georgia Always beard; “Xow when I was in California . . .” Alway.s seen: with Ixathy, Penn, and Riaiiny Life ambition; to see the world Favorite food : Cape Cod Lobster Pet frat: Zcia Psi Pet peeve: “Kathy’s nice words” Favorite movie star: Marlon Brando Prediction for future: teaching spelling _ t Split personalities of seniors. In the top j/iefure Harriett Mardve, Sara Walters, Kitty dampen, and Pat McQueen illustrate the dignified gradua tion procession. Below, they can no longer retain their dignity. Seniors, Sophomores Leave; Pleasant Memories Remain Well, it’s about that time of year for all^St. Mary’s girls to get out their Kleenex and shed a few tears for all of the unfortunate Belles who have to leave for Carolina. Any- way, I am sure that each one of us has something special that we shall always remember about the sopho mores and seniors who will soon be saying their good-byes. For example, take Harriett Mar- dre and Sara Walters. Aren’t we going to miss their performance in May Day next year ? The program will never be the same without their dance. IFe’ll miss the calm coolness of Margot Hammond too. Who in the world will be able to slow us down the way Margot does? It’s a shame that Anne Marie Miller and Libby Reese have to spoil the percentage of St. Mary’s girls at Chajtel Hill each week-end. Kov.' when we think of missing Kitty Campen, we wonder if we’ll miss Kitty or George. It looks as if those Tar Heels will be looking at Kathy Whitfield’s matching sweater and skirt outfits next year instead of us Belles. There are some fortunate Belles at S.M.C. like Libbie Love, Martha Good, and Julianne Boone who will become “dish washing” alumnae. (Could it be that we’ll have an in crease in the members of the Grand daughter’s Club?) Carolina is certainly inheriting a “crew” that we hate to give up. That’s the Fayetteville gang. I imagine that Kimocks, Huffines, Virginia Lilly, and Mary Lee Breece will reorganize their club in Chapel Hill—probably at the Deke house. Let’s survey the Sophomore class now. You know, that class won’t seem right without its “Judy Lig gett” accent. I hope they’ll be able to recover a normal tone of voice when they come back to school next fall. One of the most colorful members of the So])homore class is leaving—- Betsy Duke with her Arizona sun tan and bright red dress. We all hate to see cute Patsy Beams go and take all her “suu- bcauis” with her. Thank goodness she is leaving one ray—her room mate Barry. Everyone is hoping for as cute a “paperboy” for next year as Frances Pearson was this year. Too bad that Frances wants to go way up north next year. I wonder if Agnes Scott ever had a girl from Venezuela? If not, they’ve got a lot to look forward to ’cause Doreen Greenfield is planning to get down near those Georgia Tech boys next year. Even though all the Belles that are leaving will be scattered near and far, we all have full confidence that they will be loyal to our school and will come back to see us often.
