Europe this past summer in

Saint’s Sallies
The week end of the 23rd proved
to be rather busy in spite of the
fact that almost everyone was still
recuperating from Germans. A
slightly delayed bulletin from Ger
mans is that IVIamie Ruth got a
KA charm.
Arrington Johnston went to Bos
ton for a week end at Groton, and
Molly Norfleet went to New York
for a week end at Williams. In the
opposite direction to SC went Julia
Wilcox, Sally Rembert, and Boo
Baker for Greek Week. Catherine
Dent went West to the University
of the South while Weezie Key took
off for Emory. This certainly
seemed to be quite a week end for
traveling.
The SAE’s at State also had a
pretty big weekend. Betty Coving
ton, Janice Sutton, Nancy Page
Hopkins, IMary Hill IMoffit, and
Anne iVIorris attended their party.
Three Kappa Sigs gave a party
Saturday afternoon. Belles includ
ing Jane Brady, Jessie Allen, Katy
Copp, Mary Spainhour, Sybil
Mathis, Helen London, Josie Ward,
scooter. The Clarks carried only
seventy pounds of luggage which
consisted of a tent, sleeping bags,
and one suitcase. Mrs. Clark told
us that travelling this way was
very inexpensive. They stayed at
Florelle Gwaltney, Sharon Ridge-
way, Trisha Huske, Jane White,
and Dorothy Over beck joined in the
fun.
The KA’s had a calypso party.
Among those who attended were
Nhancy Sullivan, Weezie Hill, Judy
Keller, Emeline Elmore, Judy
Scott, Camilla Rodman, Kit Tied-
eman, Lou Johnson, Legare Benton,
Linda Lunsford, Doris Price
Weezie Key, Sis Young, Dottie
Piei son, Bibi AYalker, and IMary
Catherine Jones.
The 23rd was a “lost week end”
for Celeste Fountain, but Ann
Rountree got a Sigma Chi charm.
Congratulations are also in order
for Mary Anne Heath who will be
State’s KA Rose.
^ To start this week end off the
KA’s are having another party
Dorothy Overbeck, Sally Rembert,
Kit Tiedeman, Doris Price, and
Ease Pennington are a few planning
to attend. Polly Starbuck is going
to Princeton for the week end.
Barbara Thomas and Margaret
Hamilton are going to Carolina.
youth hostels or camped out.
Airs. Clark described her trip by
showing slides on various points of
interest. All too soon assembly was
over, but the students profitted
greatly from this talk.
Belline Writes Home SMJC During G^rm^s
Dear Family,
Your daughter is changing into
a woman. She is fast becoming a
mature individual and is prepared
to face the greater anxieties of life.
Alater, Pater, I am jiinned! He is
a true man. I admit his crew-cut and
braces make him ajipear a mere
youth, but I think he is the very
essence of masculinity! His speech
is romantic although he stutters
slightly. I’m really in love!
I hate him. He just called to tell
me he wanted his pin back. He
needs it to pin a girl he met last
week. As far as I’m concerned he
is a juvenile delinquent.
I have been studying very hard
recently. Of course, I did manage
to go to Germans last weekend,
attend a fraternity jiarty at Wake
Forest, and date a boy from David
son tonight, but everyone has to
have some entertainment. I am
really knocking myself out study
ing now. I even take along my
notes when I go to the little store
or to the movies. AYu may think
I’m exaggerating, but I have done
some of my best studying over a
chicken salad sandwich.
Just found out that Aliss “R”
wants to see me in her office. I’m
glad because now I can tell her I
am leaving school for good. Every
one’s against mo and my talents are
not appreciated. I’m coming home.
Please send me some money! Don’t
have a big homecoming for me . . .
just a small blast or something.
AYur weary daughter,
Belline
P. S. Aliss “R” just told me she
thought my grades were satis
factory. I’m still coming home .
to get some rest and to go on that
houseparty with John Henry. Send
the money anyway.
Llalf of the school moved over to
Carolina several week ends ago for
the long-awaited Germans. Never
theless, Belles remained at school.
I he following is their reactions to
haying to hold down the fort while
their friends joined in the fun.
Faculty House ... We go forward
undaunted.
Lucy Alilward . . . How do f
know what I ve missed? I’ve never
been!
Gail Allen . . . What is it? ? ? ?
_ Sally Bickerstaff . . . Germans
simply doesn’t have wdiat I want!
Alidge Bowen ... I had a great
time. The “Dragon” was gone.
Carol Cniinpler ... It was
wonderful around SAIJC.
Alary Bailey . . . That week end
was wonderful because w’e had quiet
mornings for sleeping. What a
change!
