May Day Theme
Discussed
This year the tentative theme of
May Day is the Legend of Jones
\ alley. Jones Valley is a small
mountain town that suddenly be
comes industrialized. The vallev
not only gains indu.strv but aNo
gams a new type of culture.
The iirogram will consist of five
niain types of dances. There will
be, of course, the villagers doing
then hillbilly dance. The can-can
girls will represent the way of life
in the village taverns. .Jazz repre
sents the moving of factories into
town as the town begins to grow
more jirogressive. A modern dance
will iiortray the influx of the city-
slickers. The east step of building
the small town into a city finallv
takes place with the arrival of cuf-
ture, the arrival represented bv a
lyrical dance.
This program is meant for all of
St. Mary s students. Since the
scenery, make-up, and the chore-
ogniphy IS going to be done by
students only, there is no reason
why everyone should not play an
active part in this year’s Alay Dav
