Sev en seniors, four juniors, one sopho more, and one freshman were pick ed. Hannah Bell, a senior, from Goldsboro, is sports writer for the Belles, president of the Sigmas, and a member of the Stagecoach staff, of the Dramatics Club, of the Granddaughters Club, of the A'oung Republicans Club, and of the Cold Cuts. Bonnie Brinser, another senior, from Richmond, Va., will be in the court. Bonnie is a member of the Belles staff and of the Glee Club, and is a Mu cheerleader. Marjorie Bryan, a senior from Goldsboro, is chief marshal, a Sig ma cheerleader, and a member of the Young Democrats Club, of the Altar Guild, of Hall Council, and of the Circle. Marjorie was in the May Court last year. Bettv Copeland, a senior, is from Kinston. Betty is a marshal; a Mu- checrleader; and a member of the YWCA, of the Young Republicans Club, of Hall Council, and of the Stagecoach business staff. Molly Dewey, a third senior from Goldsboro to be in the Alay Court this vear, is a marshal also. She is a member of the Grandaugh- ters Club, of the YWCA, of the Al tar Guild, and of the Belles staff. The seventh senior to be in the court is Bonnie Stone from Mar tinsville, ^'a. Bonnie, a four-year girl, is a marshal and a member of the Hall Council, of the Altar Guild, and of the Belles staff. She is in addition a Mu cheerleader. Among the juniors in the ^lay Court is Molly Cooper from Wil Carolinc Clark, a senior from Tarboro, is IMay Queen for 1960. “Fuzzy” attended high school at St. yiary’s where she was a mem ber of the Y.AV.C.A., the Dramatics Club, the Y.R.C., and the Belles staff. In college her junior year she was a member of the Y.W.C.A., the swimming Club, and the Letter Club. This year “Fuzzy” is a hall counselor, a Mu cheerleader and the Senior Dance ^Marshal. Hannah is vice president of her class, a member of the Granddaughters Club, and chair man of the Elections Committee. Winston Connor, the sophomore representative, is from Charlotte. Winston is a member of the Grand daughters Club, of the Letter Clulj, and of the Swimming Club. Win ston was in the yiay Court last year. Haynes Walker, the freshman representative, is from Alexandria, Va. She is a member of the Dra matics Club, of the Granddaugh ters Club, of the Legislative Body, and of the Petitions Committee for the Legislative Body. St. Mary’s is proud to have these girls represent her in the May Day festivities. Sharon Cates, a day student and senior from Raleigh, is Maid of Honor. Before coming to St. Alary’s, Sharon attended Needham Broughton High School where she held several student government and class offices and was an active participant in club activities Her first year at St. Mary’s Sharon was a member of the Dramatics Club, the Day Students’ Posture Reiire- sentative, and a May Court at tendant. Sharon is now Posture Queen and on the Stagecoach staff. May Day Theme Discussed This year the tentative theme of May Day is the Legend of Jones \ alley. Jones Valley is a small mountain town that suddenly be comes industrialized. The vallev not only gains indu.strv but aNo gams a new type of culture. The iirogram will consist of five niain types of dances. There will be, of course, the villagers doing then hillbilly dance. The can-can girls will represent the way of life in the village taverns. .Jazz repre sents the moving of factories into town as the town begins to grow more jirogressive. A modern dance will iiortray the influx of the city- slickers. The east step of building the small town into a city finallv takes place with the arrival of cuf- ture, the arrival represented bv a lyrical dance. This program is meant for all of St. Mary s students. Since the scenery, make-up, and the chore- ogniphy IS going to be done by students only, there is no reason why everyone should not play an active part in this year’s Alay Dav
