CREATIVE ARTS festival Creative Arts Festival To Be Held At Christ Church It began as a spark And it was held within. But it grew, emerged, extended it self . . . The spark increased into a flame and it touched others. They were kindling for the light and the heat and they in turn reached out to spread the fire. It burned, it consumed, and all were touched. In time the fire roared and it was a bond. And the bond was Love. And it burned on .. . Forever. At one of the original planning meetings for Christ Church’s Crea tive Arts Festival, Mary Silver, a junior at St. Mary’s Junior College, created the poem above. Mary’s poem reenforces the theory that people possess a sometimes latent, but al ways present, personal creativity. To further reenforce this theory, the Senior Episcopal Young Church men of Christ Church are sponsoring a Creative Arts Festival for all Ra- leigh-area high school students in an attempt to involve local students in an experience of creative self-expres sion. The festival will encompass the weekend of February 5th. The festival will begin Friday at 4:00 at Christ Church and will in itially center around a coffeehouse. Workshops in the fields of music, drawing and painting, sculpture, drama, photography, film and cre ative writing will be located at differ ent parts of the church. Professionals in each field will be on hand for con sultation and evaluation. The Mind Garage will provide music during the weekend. The workshops will continue through Saturday night. The culmi nation of the weekend will be a wor ship service on Sunday, put together by the students using their produc tions from the festival. The worship and celebration service will be follow ed by a concert Sunday afternoon. It is the hope of the sponsors that the Creative Arts Festival will pro vide the youth of Raleigh with an experience in sharing and communi cating ideas freely. Through creative media they feel that this is possible. At Christ Church a spark emerged. They’d like to spread the flame.
