The Cold Cuts, decked in their Christmas ornamented hog-washers, put on an excel lent performance of Christmas Carols plus “regulars.” Every one joined in with a sing-along and later some even did can can dancing. To top off this special night, Santa read “The Night Before Christmas” and then opened his sack, and, to the delight and glee of everyone, threw out candy canes. Tniik strong men stick it out until the very end. “PULL, PULL . . First West CruiK strong n. by Becky Davis The annual Beacon tug-of- war was successfully “pulled off,” Dec. 3, 4, and 6, for the sumptuous turkey dinner cook ed by the Beacon members. With all of the halls partici pating except Penick, 1st and 3rd Holt, the event soon be came as important to all St. Mary’s jocks as the A,CC Bas ketball Tournament. On Monday night the halls that won or received byes were: 1903 Building, 2nd Holt, 1st West Smedes, 3rd Middle-East Smedes, 2nd West Smedes, 2nd West Rock, 2nd West Cruik, 1st East Cruik, 3rd East-West Smedes, 1st West Cruik, 2nd East and 1st East Smedes. Due to rain, on Tuesday night there were only two tugs and Second Holt and Third Middle Smedes were victorious. Then, on Dec. 6, these halls and 2nd West Smedes, 2nd West Cruik, 1st West Cruik; and 2nd East Smedes all went for another rbun'd. *The most exciting tug of the' event was between 2nd Holt and 3rd Mid dle-East Smedes. Both halls pulled as if their lives depend ed on it and displayed more spirit and determination than everyone put together. However, 2nd Holt, the only Senior Hall participating, won. 2nd West Smedes beat 2nd West Cruik, and 1st West Cruik out-pulled 2nd East Smedes. These teams then went to the semifinals where 2nd West Smedes over came the fierce and strong 2nd Holt. So for the final tug, 2nd West Smedes met 1st West Cruik. After three strong tugs 2nd West Smedes became the ■winner and were the privileged guests to attend the Beacon turkey dinner, Dec. 11. This dinner was a formal affair ■with all the trimmings. The Beacon ■wishes to express their sincere thanks to all of the halls participating, especial ly 2nd Holt who by unanimous vote receives our honorary award for strength and school spirit. (.
