Back in the Dining Hall by Anne Latham If you were to go back into the kitchen of the Dining Hall, you would soon realize that there is much more work done towards preparing just one meal than you would have thought. There are many different factors to consider when you are serving a particular meal, because some foods are more popular than others. For example, the Dining Hall staff would be more inclined to prepare more hamburgers than portions of a casserole dish, because more students choose hamburgers. Also, the Dining Hall has to consider that on the weekdays more people eat lunch than dinner, so therefore they would prepare more food for the lunch crowd. Every once in a while the Dining Hall will prepare special foods, such as the foods on the menu for the Scarsdale Diet. Last year, for two weeks, they served the foods for tliis particular diet, but they have not done it this year because there were not enough people taking part in the Scarsdale Diet to make it worth their while. The people on the staff basically serve meals on a three week basis. This means that if you have pizza one night for dinner, then you could expect to see it on the menu again in about three weeks or so. Keeping up with the food calendar is another duty they have. One fairly major problem concerning the Dining Hall is the fact that there are too many things constantly being replaced; Salt and Pepper shakers, silverware and glasses are often taken out of the dining Hall for personal use. It would not be as bad if persons borrowing these items would return them, but often times we forget to bring them back, so therefore much money com^ out of the Dining Hall’s budget to buy new glasses and forks, etc. If we were to be more cautious about remembering not to take items out of the Dining Hall it would be greatly appreciated; Stay tuned for more information concerning our Dining Hall, in later issues. Another Puzzle! by Lynn Jones With the spring semester comes new members to clubs and teams at SMG. This puzzle is to remind you of all the activities to keep an eye on.
