J When the Saint Mary's Girls got The Party Started! • • • The Christ School Saga LEE POSEY STAFF WRITER SARAH BARBEE TECHNICAL EDITOR Saturday morning, November 5th. The 9th and 10th grade Saint Mary’s girls head out of the Christ School dining hall after filling their stomachs with food and their eyes with welcomed sights of the student "bodies". They were greeted with a friendly game of "pick-up" football to watch, a refreshing change after the strenuous van ride there. The expected six hour trip turned into an eight hour trip due to frequent stops for directions, nature's calling, more directions, and even more directions. After the reservations fell through, the group traveled to three hotels before they landed at the Ramada in Hendersonville. This hotel was actually closer to Christ School and extremely nice. Saturday morning, before brunch, as the group pulled into the school they saw the results of the boys' week of pranks due to the upcoming football game against their arch rival, Asheville School. Their banners for spirit put ours to shame. Before the big football game the girls piled into the vans and went for a scenic ride down the Blue Ridge Parkway stopping at the Folk Art Center and Biltmore Shopping Center. Then they attempted to go to the game but once again were misguided. By now the girls were quite tired of the vans. When they arrived at the football game, around halftime, an alumni of Saint Mary's, now a teacher at Christ School, worked hard to introduce the girls to many boys during the game. More antics were witnessed when pictures of an Asheville School student/spy tied to the Christ School flagpole were passed around. Unfortunately Christ School lost the game. The girls then piled back into the vans to go back to the hotel and prepare for the dance. Preparing for the mixer was almost as much fun as the mixer itself. The girls rushed back and forth from room to room for advice, makeup, and clothes to borrow. Then they were off. The dance had already begun when the Saint Mary's vans arrived, so the girls hurried in so they wouldn’t miss a thing. As it turned out, no one seemed to be having much fun when they came in. Once the girls started dancing, though, everyone followed their lead. The real party had begun. The time flew by as they danced and talked with the guys. Before they knew it, they had to leave. The event they had been anticipating for weeks was now over. The expected brunch in the morning fell through, so the mixer was the last time the girls would see the boys, but not the last time they would hear from them. Since the girls have gotten back, letters have been coming in and going out, and . phones have been ringing(here and at Christ School). There are high hopes that someday Christ School and Saint Mary's will come together again. Food Drive Triumph! SARAH BARBEE TECHNICAL EDITOR The tension had been piling up for weeks. The food had been piling up even faster. It seemed inevitable that the 9th and 10th graders would come out on top in the Food Drive. Their hearts are obviously as big as their spirit. As soon as the 9th and 10th graders were challenged to collect the most food for the Wake County Relief Food Drive, they decided to win. By bringing in containers from the size of a soda can to a 61b. can of pinto beans, they have outdone everyone. With the promise of a chapel cut they strived to be the best.
