' Miss Hattie Greer of Blowing Rock has been teaching the school at Big Lick. Her school closed March 23. She is a noble woman and a successful teacher. She will be missed in our church work at Big Lick. She has made application for the postoffice at Big Lick and we hope she will be successful so that she can make her home with us. Sister Roena Burris, wife of Adam BurrLs, Sr., died March 14. She had only been suck ,a few days and her death caused a terrible shock to the family. She was a noble woman, and will be greatly missed by her rela tives and friends. She leaves a husband, six children, twenty- nine gi'and children, eleven great grandchildren, and one brothel'. She was sixty-eight years old and had been a mem ber of a Missionary Baptist Baptist church for forty-eight years. He funeral was conduct ed by her pastor, C. J. Black, and her remains laid to rest in the Canton cemetery. Quite a large crowd attended the funeral. Peace be up>on her ashes. Dear Bro. Black: — . We have been on our work here nearly three months. Dur ing that time there have been added to the church twenty members and seven more have given their names for letters and will unite as soon as we can get their letters. The Sunday school has nearly doubled in at tendance. 'The third Sunday we had 238 present. On the same day there were 82 Baracas pres ent, 32 Philatheas, and 21 Jun ior PhiJatheas. Every one of these classes are growing and are very enthusiastic in the 'work. More loyal classes can not be found in any church. The Baraca class sent their teacher, the pastor, to the Men’s Conven tion at Durham. It now propos es to put in a heating system in the church which will cost about two hundred and fifty dollars. Each of the Philathea classes propose to build a Sunday school room at a cost of one hundred dollars. The Baraca Class has taken and held the Baraca Ban ner offered by the Baraca-Phil- athea Union of the city for the highest per centage present at its monthly meetings. At fhe last meeting, the Class had sev enty-three on roll and seventy- three present. The Junior Phil athea Class was awarded the Philathea Banner at the last meeting. So, at present, our Sunday school holds both ban ners. You will understand this better when I say that more than twenty classes competed for these Banners. Our prayer meeting,is jgyow- ing. It iiT ^Id to haw increased five hundred per cent since the first of the year. Our work in every department is moving along. The prospects are bright for a glorious harvest for the Lord during the spring and the summer months. ’The Stanly Baptist finds a hearty welcome into several homes in our congregation, not only for its news, but becausd of the life of the man behind it. There is no one so universally loved in the congregation as he. We are now expecting a visit from him shortly. I THE PASTOR.
