McDaniel, Pastor Of First Baptist Church, Richmond, Va. (No nobler, braver stand for the truth has ever been madd in America than the following address, delivered more than a year ago by George W. McDan iel to young ladies of Meredith College, North Carolina. Let the reader get the set ting: A few months before this address, Prest. W. L. Pot ent of Wake Forest College, North Carolina had addressed the young ladies of Meredith College. Emboldened by the protection given him and his son. Prof. Hubert Poteat, and their Evolution by the leaders of the organized work of North Carolina Baptists, whose devo tion to a man has eclipsed their allegiance to God’s cause and truth, Prest. Poteat took the oc casion to tell the young ladies that, whether they liked it or not, thej' were kin to every thing from the aboeraa up to man, referring to “my friend, the amoeba;” that Evolution is no longer a debatable subject; that it is now a demonstrated science; that man has been on this earth five hundred thous and years, etc. He did not talk that way before the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina more than a year ago when he swept them with his I eloquence and had them weep- jing, and told them that he be- ilieved that God created man in j his own image, having in his imind the mental reservation ; that God created man through : Evolution from amoeba up to iman, but intending for the peo ple to get the impression that he believed man was created by God directly, immediately, in jHis own image; and told them jthat he believed that God creat ed man from the dust of the ground through Evolution from i amoeba up to man, but intend ing that the people should get the impression that he believed ithat man was created by God directly, immediately, from the dust of the ground. Yet his defenders and apologists, the leaders of the organized work of the Baptists of North Caro lina went away gloating over this juggling, this flim-flam ing the people. Let wh ' will attempt to reconcile tne Mere- ‘Cith College address with the Baptist State Convention ad dress.
