We con remem ber the stories that newspapers carried telling of three Navy fliers who fought the sea for forty days while they drifted in a rubber raft without food, equipment, and proper cloth ing, yet survived to land, weak and bent, on a strange shore. The trio made a feeble effort to walk up the beach in mili tary fashion. "If there are Japs on this island," said Dixon, they'll not see on American sailor crawl. We'll stand, and march, and make them shoot us down, like men-o'-wars- men." The story is more than that of hardship and courage; it is a testimony of personal mo rale, proof of the military value of the democratic ideal. Robert Trumbull, the experi enced newspaper man who stayed close to the fliers during their long convalescence, has written a whole book on the information he gathered from them. The Raft will stand among the enduring sagas of men and the sea. DEAR SANTA From Snoopy Dear Santa: Please bring me a nice 'Rocky'-horse.
