Everything You Need To Know About
Drugs - But Are Afraid To Ask. The
Asheville-Buncombe County Sheriffs
Department (crime prevention) will pre
sent an informative program on drugs
and alcohol, and you can tour their
Drug Mobile (“Weeds on Wheels”).
The program will be followed by an
open dorm.
Scholarship Opportunity: The Educa
tion Commision of the Southern Baptist
Convention will award six Opdyke
Scholarships of $250 each to Mars Hill
college students this fall. To be eligible,
each recipient must be a Baptist and a
native of the mountain area of the
United States. Go to the Financial Aid
Office in Blackwell Hall to get an ap
plication. It, along with a letter(s) of
recommendation, must be returned to
the Financial Aid Office by noon on
Fri., Sept. 30.

Washington, D.C. - September - The
Scholarship Reseafch Institute of Wash
ington, D.C., an organization specializ
ing in aiding students in their efforts to
locate funds for college, is itself offering
three (3) $10(X) scholarships. Applicants
must be an undergraduate, a fulltime
student, and have a G.P.A. of 2.0 or
above.
Recipients will be selected based upon
their academic performance, leadership
abilities, and college and community ac
tivities.

Casting Completed
Announcing The 1984 Miss North Carolina Pagea®
Pure as the Driven Snow is a melodra
ma with music, opening in October. The
play was written by Paul Loomis, and
will be directed here at Mars Hill by C.
Robert Jones. The cast is led by: Janine
Tengwall as Purity Dean, “a poor work
ing girl”; Willis Moore as Leander
Longfellow, “the manly-bosomed
hero”; and Dean Wilson and Jim Hall,
as Mortimer Frothingham, The Villain.
Let’s Get Physical
In the lower lobby pf Huffman dorm,
Aerobic dance classes are being held by
R.A.’s Shannon Joyner and Kellye
Smith on Monday evenings from 8 to 9.
There is no charge and all girls are
welcome.
The exercise program includes firming
and toning all major muscle groups as
well as improving endurance and flex
ibility. Aerobic dance is also "a. good
method for releasing tension. In addi
tion, the instructors teach rhythmic
breathing and give tips on jogging, diet,
and other exercise programs.
Announcing the 1984 Miss North Car
olina USA to be held January 12, 13 and
14, 1984 in Winston-Salem. The reigning
Miss North Carolina USA, Payge Pin
son, will crown her successor on the live
prime time telecast on WXII-TV 12 in
Winston-Salem and on a regional net
work. The winner will represent our
state in the 1984 Miss USA Pageant to
be televised nationally on CBS.
The search is on for women to com
pete for this prestigious title as well as
for a prize package including $1,500.00
in cash; a screen test; an all-expense-paid
trip to the 1984 Miss USA Pageant; an
all-expense-paid trip to Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida; and much, much more to be an
nounced. All contestants receive special
gifts.
