Every Christian man and woman, not just the minister and religious educator, faces the mystery of death and the fears, anxiety and sense of loss which accompany it. The Christian meets the mystery of death with faith in the Risen Lord. In this seminar we have gathered a religious educator, a liturgist, a moral theologian, a Scripture scholar and a psychologist to help us understand more fully the depths of this mystery for ourselves and those whom we are called to serve. The seminar is dedicated to a man who served the church of the Southeast well, Paul J. Hallinan, Archbishop of Atlanta. Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross will discuss the psychological aspects of those who are ter minally ill. She will also deal with the reactions of those close to the patient: family, ministers, doctors and nurses, and friends. Rev. R. Kevin Seasoltz will treat liturgical experiences for the sick, dying and their families. He will also examine in particular the sacrament of the sick and the celebration of the passage from death to life. Rev. Robert Springer will present the background for consideration of moral questions surrounding care for the ter minally ill. Although she Is Medical Director of the Family Service and Mental Health Center of South Cook County in Illinois she finds time to lecture to groups of doctors, nurses, ministers and educators across the country. REV. R. KEVIN SEASOLTZ, O.S.B. ... is a monk of St. Anselm's Abbey in Washington, D. C. As Associate Professor in the Department of Religion and Religious Education at The Catholic University of America he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Liturgy, Theology of Celebration and Sacramental Theology. Among his pub* llcations are The House of God, The New Liturgy and articles in Worship. The Thomist, Liturgical Arts, Pastoral Life, and Commonweal. REV. ROBERT H. SPRINGER, S.J. ... is Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology at Woodstock College. He has also served on the faculties of the Gregorian University, Fordham University and the Ateneo University of Manila Law School. His courses cover the areas of medical ethics and human sexuality. He has participated in continuing education programs for clergy and in renewal programs on the parish level. His articles have appeared In The New Catholic Encyclopedia. Sacramentum Mundl, Comn>onweal, Theological Studies. Each year he authors the "Notes on Moral Theology" for Theological Studies. DR. JOSEPHINE MASSINGBERD FORD ... was brought up in Sherwood Forest, England. She received her education in English schools and universities. In addition to being a qualified theologian she is a trained nurse. She has served on the board of theologians who were consultants to the U. S. bishops on the permanent diaconate. At pre sent she is a member of the committee of three on the subject of the Sacraments of Anointing and Penance. Dr. Ford has taught in England and Africa and has now been teaching at Notre Dame University in the Department of Theology for eight years. She is the first woman to hold tenure at this university. She has published widely in various professional journals and has just completed her sixth book, Revelation of St. John. She is publishing a service entitled "The Way of Resurrection" which is to be adopted for the use of wakes. REV. ALFRED McBRIDE, 0. PRAEM. . . . received his B. A. from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, and studied at Lumen Vitae, Brussels, Belgium, where he received his diploma. From 1959-66 he was master of novices at St. Norbert Abbey. In 1966 he was appointed to the faculty of The Catholic University of America as assistant professor of Religious Education, His articles have appeared in Worship. Comrrtonweal, Bible Today, Living Light and American Ecclesiastical Review. He had a syndicated column entitled Bible Themes and currently has a new column in the "Know Your Faith Series". He has written several series for Hi Time on the bible and liturgy and is a noted lecturer who has conducted workshops and insti tutes for various groups in the United States and Canada. He is the author of several books including Catechetics: A Theology of Proclamation, The Human Dimensions of Catechetics, The Perfect Wave^ A New Testament for Young People, and the recent The Pearl and the Seed ♦ A Church History for Junior High. He was recently appointed Director of the Forum for Religious Education at NCEA.
