Crossroads is intended to serve as a forum for the several constituencies of Belmont Abbey College. It will also attempt to provide significant inforrnation about the many issues which affect hi^er education generally, and this college in ’particular. The editors welcome diversity of opinion; editorial standards aimed at will be those of Christian ethics, good taste, and Journalistic quality. The Editorial Board of Crossroads includes students, faculty, and administration. Additionally, several editors at large have volunteered to cover such areas as student afliairs, humanities, and science and religion. James Solari, Column Editor Mary Cook, Alumni News Editor Bill Arrowood Photographer Memories A Christmas card from Mrs. Helen Gorney brought back many memories of the days when her son, Dave Gorney, was Registrar at the Abbey. From 1937 to 1942, when he left the Abbey to serve in World War II, and again from 1945 until his death on January 3, 1961, Dave served the College as Registrar and devoted his life to the students at the Abbey. He and his mother were always at the basketball games and all func tions of the Abbey, and were known to all. You who remember Dave,' drop her a line. She would love to hear from you. Many of our alumni will remember Dave and will be happy to know that his mother is still alive (she is in her eighties) and lives with her son-in-law at 114 Sassafras Street, Erie, Pennsylvania 16507. Her daughter is also now deceased, and although almost blind, Mrs. Gorney still has her wonderful outlook on life and enjoys getting mail. ’08 - It was good to have the letter from Philip Morgan reminiscing about the days when Belmont Abbey was known as St. Mary’s College. He is State Librarian of the South Carolina Knights of Cblumbus. ’10 — Abbot Edmund visited Admiral Robert O. Glover in the hospital in Richmond the first of November. ’28"Floyd Rabil came by to visit Father Cuthbert. He has retired from the Secret Service where he was chief of the Secret Service protecting the President, serving with Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy and Johnson. '40 - Rear Admiral Vincent A. Lascara, SC, USN, assumed command of the Norfolk Naval Supply center on June 27 as the twenty-fourth commanding officer. He and his wife Elizabeth have four children. ’41“It was good to have word of John Helmich. He works for Budwelser-Busch aboard their “A and Eagle” yacht. Thank you, John Kemp, for telling us of “Yunch” Pollock’s death sud denly on August 19. John Kemp & Associates in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, represents Mutual of Omaha and other insurance companies. ’42 ~ Ed Hunsuck is laboratory director of Cannon Mills in Concord, N.C., and lives in Kannapolis. ’49-Jack Sherry is a technical assistant with the American Red Cross Blood Bank in Norfolk, Va., and has donated eight News BY MARY COOK gallons of blood. ’52-Had a note from John Williamson from Houston, Texas. He would like to organize a 25-year class reunion in 1977. ’55-Grady Duncan has been appointed controller of Wix Corporation in Gastonia. ’59-Congratulations to Zean Jamison, who won the Randy Babcock Award given to the outstanding Personnel Director for his contribution to industry and the community, presented at the annual meeting of Central Piedmont Industries in Charlotte on November 27. Zean is Per sonnel Director for Lance, Inc. Dr. John Munzenrider is assistant professor at Tufts Medical School and assistant radio therapist-in-chief at the New England Medical Center. He and Elizabeth and their three children, Johnny, Karen, and Ellen, liv^ in Boston. Father Clement Porzio is pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Salisbury, N.C. ’60 - Jerry Kellar owns Jerry Kellar Construction Corporation and Jerry Kellar Real Estate in si' Si Gastonia. His firm did the construction work on the con version of O’Connell dorm for our women students. Donald Craig has been appointed Food Service Specialist for the Atlanta District of McCormick’s Food Service. ’61 - Rabbi Emanuel Baum is clinical supervisor of the New Program, a drug prevention unit of Homestead Hospital Com munity MH-MR Center in Munhall, Pa. He has also been appointed Professor of Psychology ahB Education at Heed University in Hollywood, Florida, and a visiting professor at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh Graduate School of Education. . Father George Jepson stopped by the Abbey when he was home at the Oratory after serving eight years in Caripinas, near Sao Paulo, Brazil. A Missionary of the Holy Apostles, he will return to Brazil soon. Joe Munzenrider is with Raytheon at the Department of Transportation Library in Cambridge, Mass.
