Father Oscar leading celebrant Academic Mass On Thursday, Sep tember 4th, the annual Academic Mass for the student body was held in the Quadrangle behind O’Connell Dorm. The Rev. John P. Bradley, Sigma Phi Chapter To Celebrate Tenth Anniversary The Lambda Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Belmont Abbey College will hold their tenth Anniversary Celebration on November 7, 8, and 9 of this year. Some of the planned activities include a Happy Hour on Friday at the SPE House bet ween the hours of 9-1. The bar will be open and beer may be purchased for 25 cents per glass. An Annual Alumni Cor poration Meeting will be held on Saturday the 8th and reports on the Alumni Board and Alumni Corporation will be read. Between the hours of 6-7:30 p.m. there will be a BYOB cocktail party at the house; the mixers will be provided by the undergraduate chapter. Following this there will be a buffet dinner with a guest speaker in the college dining hall. There will be a $3.50 per person charge for the meal. A party and dance will follow at the house and thisalso will be BYOB, but the un dergraduates have promised to try and provide a few kegs of beer. To date we have heard from approximately 40 alumni who plan to at tend. It is imperative that we hear from all who plan to be there no later than October 15th. A simple note telling us how many will be in your party is all that is necessary. We are going to have a great weekend and are looking forward to seeing many old and dear friends. President of Belmont Abbey College, ad dressed the crowd and asked God’s help and guidance for the coming year. A large gathering consisting of students, faculty, and ad ministration was in at tendance to hear Fr.- Oscar, who led the mass, deliver his message of peace and thanksgiving. He urged everyone to be thankful fw the things we have and to pray for those of us who are less fortunate. Fr. Bradley spoke optimistically of the coming year and en couraged the community to make good use of the things we have here, “there are no pockets in the shroud...” he said. Music was provided by Miss Mary Greaber who played several selections on the guitar and sang. Although devoted to church music, Mr. Laderoute has had a distinguished career in the United States and Canada as a concert performer, opera singer, and teacher. He was one of the award winners of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions of the Air, Master of forty opera roles and ei^ty major oratorio-choral works, he has perfcH*med as soloist with the great symphony organizations of this country under the batons of Arturo Toscanini, Serge Koussevitzky, Leonard Bernstein, and many others. Mr. Zeller presently teaches Choral con ducting at Sacred Heart College. Experienced medical technologists in various positions earn between $12,000 and $14,000. “Recent studies indicate that medical technologists with the bachelor’s degree from a program such as Belmont Abbey’s are in increasing demand for the more responsible administrative posi tions,” Dr. Stuart commented. Training for medical technology at Belmont Abbey College is at the baccalaureate level. The first three years of study follow the normal curriculum for either the biology or chemistry concentrations. A full year of labwatory work follows at either Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, N.C., or at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville, N.C. The program is fully accredited and approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the American Medical Association. It is, however, un derstandable that a student, no matter how much he or she may be attracted to the Liberal Arts, must give serious consideration to the preparation for a career to make a living. In my opinion, if it is at all possible, a serious and superior student is best prepared by an Honors education within the Liberal Arts tradition that is followed by specialization at the graduate level within a field that trains for a suitable career. Mrs. Jane Freeman Jane Freeman New Librarian Belmont Abbey College announced this week the appointmentof Mrs. Jane L. Freeman as Director of Abbot Vincent Taylor Library. A native of South Carolina, Mrs. Freeman possesses impressive academic credentials: a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from N.C. State; a master’s in the same field from Penn State University; a master’s degree in library science from Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. 9ie is a member of Beta Phi Mu Library Fraternity and is Vice President-elect of Special Libraries Association, South Atlantic chapter.
