Traffic patterns are

The monks will be
pleased when they are
allowed to return to the
Abbey monastery, whose
extensive renovation has
been under way for many

bring the lovely old
building up to twentieth
century safety and
comfort standards.
Abbot Jude reported that
the Belmont Abbey
Community will satisfy
the lighting costs in
curred for lamps in the
Cathedral area through a
proportionate accounting
with the College. Work
thus far has proceeded on
schedule. Private rooms
will be ready for oc
cupancy after December
18, though interior
finishing of other areas
will continue through
January.
Stanley Dudko
Nine Time Coach Of The Year!

ByFR.JAMESSOLARI. O.8.B.
The faculty member which Crossroads salutes in this
issue has just been awarded the honor of “Coach of the
Year” of District 26 of the N.A.I.A. for the ninth time!
We wish to congratulate Mr. Stanley Dudko for this
impressive achievement and wish him continued
success in the future.
His is indeed a very interesting success story which
began back in Rowno, Poland where he was born in
1934. His earliest memories are still vivid with the
tragedy which overtook his native country with the
German invasion in World War II. His family was
transported to a labor camp where conditions were
severe but fortunately they managed to survive. After
the war they were brought to the United States and
found a home in Greenville, S. C. Dudko received his
high school education there and became an American
citizen. He served in the Army for two years and upon
receiving his honorable discharge from the service he
enrolled in Belmont Abbey College in 1956.
As an Abbey student he excelled both in studies and
in his favorite sport, soccer. He was Dean’s List
student, named to “Who’s Who Among Students in
American Colleges and Universities,” elected to Delta
Epsilon Sigma honor society, and voted Captain of the
varsity soccer squad and most valuable player in 1959.
Upon completion of his A.B. degree at the Abbey,
Stanley spent a semester at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill in the School of Business
Administration. Then he was awarded a teaching
fellowship in the Economics department of Auburn
University where he earned his Master’s degree. He
was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, an honor
society for graduate students in the field of economics.
While studying at Belmont Abbey, Stanley met a
lovely Polish girl, Jascia Guryn, who was a student at
Sacred Heart College. In 1962 they decided to marry
and settle in Belmont. They noW'have two children,
Roma and Michael. With his graduate degree in hand.
Stanley began his teaching career at Charlotte
Catholic High School and at Central Piedmont Com
munity College. In 1963 he was invited to return to his
alma mater to join the department of business and
economics then under the leadership of Mrs. Isabelle
Hart. Since this time Stanley has been very active in
teaching a variety of courses, he has had several ar
ticles published in professional journals and
newspapers, and has served on numerous Faculty
committees. He is a popular teacher and good friend of
many Abbey students and alumni. He was selected for
inclusion in the 1965 edition of “Outstanding Young
Men of America.” The College has promoted him to
the rank of Assistant Professor and granted him
tenure. ^ ^
In March of 1971 Abbot Edmund McCaffrey, O.S.B.
announced that Pope Paul VI had bestowed upon
Stanley Dudko the papal Knighthood of the Order of St.
(Continued On Pg. 7.)
