MARY COOK 33 " It was good to see Owen McDonnell when he, his son Greg and wife Maxie visited the College on October 16, the first visit since he left in 1933. Owen is vice president of sales with Smith-Kelly Supply Co. in Mobile, Ala., where they live, ’59 -- David Foley is associate professor in the Department of History at Augusta College in Georgia, where he and Anne are now living. ’61 - John McCaffrey is librarian at the South Hamp ton (Va.) Correctional Center, and he and his wife Patty live in Capron. ’63 - Admissions counselor Jane Shannon (’77) visited with Harvey Michael while recruiting at Monroe High School. Harvey teaches English there and lives in Wingate, N.C. ’64 - Gerald Zoby is a partner in the law firm of Decher, Zoby, Collians & Christie in Norfolk, Va. Gerry almost missed the Saturday night festivities of the Beach Weekend when he was caught in the strong water currents while fishing that afternoon. A1 Taylor is an attorney in the firm of Cooper & Davis in Chesapeake, Va., where he and wife Fran live. George Allen teaches school in Matthews, N.C. 65 — Congratulations to Lenny Brown on his ap pointment as national sales manager. Athletic Division of Arno Adhesive Tapes, Inc., a subsidiary of School, Inc. Lenny, his wife Linda and their four sons, Bruce, Terence, Ryan, and Tod, will be moving to LaPorte, Indiana. Dean Sword is an attorney in Portsmouth, Va. Richard Vlaservich is sales manager for P.Y.A.- Monarch in Gastonia. ’66 - Paul Ranken, his wife Jenelle and son John William, four, and daughter Catherine, two, stopped by to see Father Donald the last of October on their way back to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where Paul is research chemist with Ethlyn Corporation. Eileen Clark is a learning disabilities teacher with the Shaker Heights (Ohio) City Schools. She received her Master’s degree in education from Cleveland State University. It was good to hear from Jim Murphy, who is with Allstate Insurance Co. and lives in Stoney Point, N.Y. Thanks, Jim, for all your help in recruiting in Rockland County. MRS. MARY COOK 71 — Congratulations to Fred Stann, who has opened his office for the practice of law in Gastonia, N.C. Fred is president of the B.A.C. Athletic Foundation, and he and Connie live in Gastonia. Congratulations to Brendan Soden and Gerri Cook who were married November 25 in Philadelphia. Brendan is with the Secret Service and assigned to the Vice President’s detail. Gerri is with the telephone company. The Sodens will live in Alexandria Va. ’72 - Jim Gordon is with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in Greenville, S.C., where he and his wife Mary Jane live. Jack Calaman is with Lehman Brothers Kuhn Leob in New York City. He serves on the executive board of the NYC Jaycees. Jerome Croan is with the VA Medical Center in Perry Point, Maryland. He received his Master’s degree in social work from Howara University. He and his wife Deborah live in Perry Point. Marshall Hamrick is a supervisor with General Tire in Charlotte ■ and lives in Belmont. ’67 - Ro and Vito Sanzo have moved to Lake Grove, Long Island. This summer they saw a few old friends who, they report, are doing well, including the George Affusos and son, Frank Chupko, the Mike Dugans and daughters, the Rick Phillips and son, and the Creighton Schnecks and daughter. Jim McGlynn is a commercial artist and lives in Hockessin, Delaware. 68 - It was good to hear from Jim Nissley, who is working as a mortgage analyst with Dominion Mort gage* Investment Corporation in Woodbridge, Va. Jim and Fran have two children and live in Stafford. 69 - Enjoyed talking with Bob Marshall on October 26. He is legislative assistant to Congressman Robert K. Dornan of California, and he and Kathy are still traveling around the country making speeches for pro life. George Liakos is with First Bank of Virginia. Robert Francis McCarthy is a teacher and lives in Butler, N.J. 70 - John Haluska is in charge of the computer program for a company based in New Hampshire where he, IS wife Barbara and seven-year-old Jason live. John travels the east coast and Porta Rico. Dan Markowski is an executive secretary with Alma Offset Co. in Trenton, N.J., and lives in Plainsboro. Tom Melchiorre is the owner of Kathy’s Korner, Inc. in North Wildwood, N.J. 74 — It was good to see Pat Gribbon when he visited the campus on October 4. Pat is financial analyst with Bimger King Corporation at their headquarters in Miami. Enjoyed the article on Grace DiSanto in the “Morganton (N.C.) News-Herald” on October 18. Grace has won eleven awards, was honored as Poet-of-the- Month last December by the New York Poetry Forum, and has had sixty-four poems published or accepted for publication. Tom Wilson is an insurance representative in Washington, D.C. Congratulations to Guy Thomas, who was promoted to the rank of Major in ceremonies at Missouri Southern State College, where he heads the Military Science Department. Wife Elaine pinned the gold oak leaf insignia on his uniform. Guy came to MSSC in March 1976 from Istanbul, Turkey, where he served as Commander, Headquarters Detachment 528 Field Ar tillery Group. He had previously served in Germany and Vietnam. Having attained the rank of captain in 1969, he received his promotion to major on his first application. Eligibility for promotion is determined by the length of time one holds the rank, then past performance and potential. Congratulations to Tom Amann and his wife Patty on the birth of their second son, Brian Patrick, on November 18. Tom is president of the Charlotte- Mecklenburg Alumni Association. He works for Per sonal Money Managers in Charlotte, where he and his family live. ’75 - Phil Nofal has several works of art on display in the Washington office of Rep. John W. Jenrette, D-S.C., where Phil works part-time. He is currently working in his father’s business, Phil Nofal’s Fine Footwear, and is involved in the appeals process of Social Security benefits. He is also a member of the Pee Dee Photographic Society. 76 - Brian O’Fallon is an auditor with North Carolina National Bank in Charlotte. Donnie and Terry Hatchett have moved into their new home in Newport News, Va. where Donnie is treasurer cf Hatchett Home Im provements and Terry teaches. Congratulations and best wishes to Sandra McKillop and I.arry Rieger who were married October 28. Larry is an assistant adjutant with the U S. Army, and they will be going to Germany soon. ’77 ~ Bob Ipock is assistant manager of tire main tenance and recapping for Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation in Cherryville. Thanks, Bob, for establishing the J. P. Smith Scholarship and the T.B. Ipock Scholarship at Belmont Abbey College for a student working his way through college. That is most thoughtful and deeply appreciated by all of us here at the College. Congratulations and best wishes to Tina Coleman ( 78) and Paul Briscione, who were married in August. Paul is an assistant veterinarian at the Garden State race track and Tina is substitute teaching. They are living in Long Branch, N.J. James Gentzkow is in the underwriter training program of U.S. Fidelity & Guaranty Co. in Charlotte. 78 - Kathy O’Toole and Jean McGinnis are Jesuit volunteers at the Habre Indian Reservation in Ashland, Montana, teaching and working with Indian children. Matt Lammers is a student at Dayton University and residing at the Glenmary House of Studies, where he will begin his novitiate. Donna Maloni is director of student activities at Queens College in Charlotte. It’s good to have you in this area, Donna. Stephen Deese is with Howard V. Caton Co. in Charlotte. Robert Delaney is a lieutenant with the U.S.Marines stationed at Quantico. Fred Moench stopped by the alumni office when he visited the Abbey in Octoter. He is title seacher for Mid- State Abstract Co. in Toms River, N.J. Mike O’Neill is attending the University of Baltimore Law School. Mary Graeber is an auditor with Price Waterhouse & Co. in Atlanta. Patricia Saul is attending C.W. Post Graduate School and living in Port Washington, N.Y. Joann Mills is in a management program with Bailey, Banks and Biddle in McLean, Va. and lives in Woodbridge. Patricia Barnes is in Officer Candidate School with the U.S. Navy stationed in Rhode Island. Robbie Lake is a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. Mary O’Leary is a graduate student at SUNY in Binghampton, N.Y. Donna Lyman teaches at North Belmont Elementary School and lives in Mt. Holly. Dan O’Connor is in graduate school at Glassboro, N.J. Bill Kitusky is on the customer relations staff of Limitorque Corporation and lives in Lynchburg, Va. Mike O’Neill is in Law School at the University of Baltimore. Nancy Rello is working for Big WAYS Radio in Charlotte and lives in Belmont. Jeff Sailstad is a research assistant with Burroughs - Welcome in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Margie Healy is in graduate school at Providence College in Boston. Arlene Hope is working for Fairfield Communities in Green Valley, Arizona. Send in your update cards. Class of ’78!
