Sorry I did not get to talk with you when you were here on May 13 for your grandson’s graduation. We are happy to have Joe Harold Morgan, Jr. as an alumnus of the Abbey. I quote from Mr. Morgan’s letter: “It was a very impressive occasion, much larger than the ceremonies of the year 1908 in June, when we had about 45 and a student body of 310, all male. Considerable changes have occurred during these 71 years, have been a member of the alumni over 50 years and marveled at its growth.” Come again soon, Mr. Morgan. We are always happy to see you, and very proud of one of our oldest living alum ni. ’52-John Williamson is director of real estate management, automatic operations, energy and en vironment for American Telephone & Telegraph Co. and lives in Bemardsville, N.J. ’56-Warren Campbell is regional manager of the South Carolina Ports Authority and lives in Taylors. ’61-John McCaffrey is director of education at Southampton Correctional Institute in Capron, Va. Congratulations to John Hannan, who has been promoted to vice president of marketing with the Ig loo Corporation, a subsidiary of Coca-Cola Bottling Co., in Houston, Texas. John received his B.S. degree from the University of Baltimore and has worked in advertising sales for the “Baltimore Sun” and the “Houston Chronicle,” and headed his own advertis ing agency for three years. ’63-Bernard Ferri is a horticultural technician with WestVaco Timberlands in Charleston, S.C. ’65-Navy Lieutenant Commander Frank Dowgwilla recently assumed command of the sub marine USS Darter, operating from Sasebo, Japan. As commanding officer, he will be responsible for the accomplishment of his submarine’s mission, her operational readiness and the overall supervision of the officers and enlisted men assigned. The Darter carries a crew of 87 officers and enlisted men, travels at speeds up to 14 knots while submerged, and is out fitted with eight 21-inch torpedo tubes. LCDR Dowgwilla has been awarded the Navy Commenda tion medal with combat “V” and Gold Star in lieu of Robin R. Roberts has been promoted to director of ad ministration at Belmont Ab bey College. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Roberts has been a part of the college community since January 1974 when he first enrolled as a student. In 1976 he received the Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, but graduation did not lead to departure in his case. Because of his involvement in the affairs of the college and his loyalty to his new alma mater, Roberts was ask ed to remain as an admissions counselor for the college. Since that time he has represented the institution in the Florida, Virginia, D.C., Maryland and Tennessee areas. In 1978 he was named assistant director of admis sions. In his new position, Roberts will direct and coor dinate. \h^ entire admissions program at Belmont Abbey second award Battle Efficiency “E” Ribbon, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Armed Forces Ex peditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with four stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He is married to the former Miss Yoko Mokoyama of Akiya, Japan. ’66-Ron Motley is a research analyst with IBM Corporation and lives in Fairfax, Va. ’67-Gene Dixon is financial manager for Graybar Electric Co. in Salt Lake City, Utah. He and his wife Christine have one daughter; Emily. Bonny Former competed in the 1979 Boston Marathon, completing it in 3K)8. ’68-Don Holden is a government bond broker on Wall Street and lives in Flushing, N.Y. ’69-Thanks, Kevin Murphy, for your letter bring ing me up-to-date on your activities since graduation from the Abbey. From 1969-70, he was a news reporter and announcer for NBC in New York City. He served as intelligence case officer in Munich, Ger many with the U.S. Army from 1971-73; in 1974 he went with the U.S. Government and currently serves as Regional Director of Classification for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in New York Ci ty. He and his wife Adrienne (Paolillo, SHC 71) have both earned Masters degrees from Long Island University, she in education and Kevin in public ad ministration, and they are now pursuing doctoral studies. They have one daughter, Brianna, and they are living on the Jersey Shore in Bayville, N.J. 70-Bob Kelly has been a school principal for several years, but now plans to practice law full time. 73-Congratulations to Diane and Jim Schwab on the birth of their first child, Meredith, in April. Jim manages Fox-Morris Personnel Consultants in Charlotte. Lorry Bauman is in the office of the In spector General as an auditor with the Department of Interior in California. He has been living in Citrus Heights for a year. Thanks for sending your new ad dress, Kevin Kirk. 'Deidre and Kevin bought George Fell's home in Stone Mountain, Ga. Kevin is with The Hartford in the Group Pension Depart ment and he and Deidre have one child, Daniel, who is 15 months old. Congratulations also to Marianna (Belmonte '77) and Salvatore De Sapio on the ar rival of their son, Antonio, on February 25. 74- Virgil Steele received the Ph.D. in Nutrition from Washington State University and has been ac cepted at the Medical College of Charleston, S.C., to work toward the M.D. 75- Congratulations to Sue and Bob Daniel on the birth of their first child, Joshua Lee, on March 30. While working on his ma.sters in hospital ad ministration at George Washington University, Paul Corcoran will be studying all aspects of administer ing a hospital at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center in Bethesda, where he will be their first administrative resident. Congratulations and good luck, Paul. Jerry Lee Guthrie is foreman at Guthrie Machine Shop in Gastonia. Congratulations also to Rosemary and Tom Spellacy on the birth of their first child, Kevin Michael, on May 7. Tom is with Graybar Electronics in New York City and they live in Massapequa Park. 76- Bob Temple is a medical supply salesman in Atlanta, and he and Deborah (Lampke '78) live in Stone Mountain. It was good to see David Reese when he stopped by the college the middle of May. Colleen and David have two children, David, five- and-a-half, and Scot, one, and live in Gastonia, where David is with Duke Power employee relations. Greg Hollingshead visited also in May, when he and June were down from Washington to see her parents in Belmont. 77- Ed Scully and his wife Margaret (SHC 76) live in Winston-Salem where Ed is the manager of Webster’s Men’s Shop. Congratulations to Susan and Peter Nagle on the arrival of their third chi|d, James Matthew. Pete and Susan live in North Brookfield, Mass., where Pete is with a Medical publishing com pany. 79-Kevin Healy has been named general manager of the Charlottetown Inn in Charlotte, where he and his wife Marti (McBride, SHC 73) live. William Dellinger is administrative assistant at the Gaston County employment and training office in the public service employment division. ’76 Alumnus Promoted To Director Of Admissions f p, Robin R. Roberts College. He will supervise the admissions office and person nel, review applications for admission, and direct the recruiting program. Since his graduation from the Abbey, Roberts has done graduate work at the Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.
