Edison Johnson- An indoor acquatic center where the NCSSM swim team practices. A lovely place to make some waves. Museum of Life and Science- The location of NCSSM’s prom, this museum offers a butterfly house and a zoo containing local fauna, in addition to quality museum facilities. The Scrap Exchange- Home to everything under the sun, the Scrap Exchange can offer a used version of just about anything. This non-profit center serves as an artistic thrift store, meaning it has any art supply you could need. Carolina Theater- A theater venue offering shows of a wide variety, from film festival to stand up comedy to plays and more, the Carolina Theater is an essential part of downtown Durham’s culture. supplies for knitting, cro- CHETING, AND NEEDLEWORK. 34. Many big shows come through here, and student discounts are often available. Hog’s Heaven BBQ - Located somewhat close to campus, this restaurant is known for having the best BBQ around. If right on campus. Southpoint Mall - One of the largest malls in the area that has a huge number of stores and restaurants. It also has a nice movie theater. Eno River State Park - This is the perfect place to hike, relax, or have a picnic by the river. Duke West Campus - It’s farther away than East Campus, but it has more Cocoa Cinnamon -This place serves amazing coffee and hot chocolate, as well as some cool accessories, candy, and coffee making equipment. Mellow Mushroom - An upscale pizza restaurant, perfect for occasions. Monuts Donuts - Now in downtown, this quirky donut place will soon make its new home on Ninth St. Try the bacon donut if you get the chance. The Parlour- A local ice cream shop that sell artisinal, handmade ice cream. With exotic flavors such as Vietnamese coffee and ginger ice cream, as well as vegan options, this is Durham’s ice cream Mecca, and only two miles from campus. This list is not all encompassing and there are many parts of Durham not listed here. The best way to take advantage of Durham, is to explore it.
