The Alpha Gamma

The Alpha Gamma Literary Socie

The business was discussed and then
an interesting program was given. A
recitation “The Fashionable School
Girl” was given by Edna Chaney. A
debate. Resolved: “That L. H. S.
Should Adopt One-Hour Periods, One
Half-Hour to be Used as Supervised
Study Periods, and the Other Half
for Recitations,” was given. The
speakers on the affirmative were Dor
othea Dorsett and Mary Prances Rog
ers. on the negative Leland Beck and
Grace Elizabeth Lindsay. The nega

gave criticism and the society ad
journed.
The Alpha Gamma Literary Socie
ty was held December 30 in Room II.
The pins for the literary society were
discussed and samples were ordered.
The program for this time was a de

ALPHA ZKTA MKETS
At the first meeting of the Alpha
Zeta Literary Society in the new year
the following officers were elected:
Cloyd Philpott, President; Foil Es-
sick, Vice-President; Crawford Beck,
Secretary and Treasurer.
The new program committee con
sists of: Dick Wklser, Chairman, Hal
Hedrick and Dwight Johnson. A
committee was also appointed to act
with a similar one from the girls
society upon the matter of a joint
banquet. Since there was no regu
lar program the society was declared
adjourned by President Philpott.
The Triangular De
bate for 1925
The subject for debate this year was
announced by Mr. E. R. Rankin as.
Resolved: “That North Craollna
Should Ratify the Port Terminals and
Water Transportation Act.”
Several subjects were sent out to
the high schools to vote on, and al
though none had a majority, the one
selected received the most votes.
The high school debating union is
conducted under the auspices of the
Dialectic and Philanthropic Literary
Societies of the University of North
Carolina.
Each year booklets are sent out
and in each school two teams are se
lected, one affirmative and one nega
tive. In order to go to Chapel Hill
both teams must win the first debate.
When they get to Chapel Hill, they
must continue debating until they are
eliminated by some better team.
The first debates are held in March,
and the final debate is held at Chapel
Hill in April during High School
week.
Lexington High School has already
debated and for several years the
teams have gone to Chaptl Hill. This
year we want to have a better team
than ever, and have them bring the
cup home. So come on students, give
the debating teams your support,
help them get to Chapel Hill, and
win the Aycock Memorial cup.
