Dear Irate Student:-
It goes without saying that even if
you are tired of this howiing about
school spirit, you haven’t much.
I think it’s time the students and
townpeople start giving their support,
just as the season is over. How
many students of L. H. S. were at the
last game? At the Salisbury game
there were a good many people there,
the majority being from Salisbury.
As for the championship contests.
I beg your pardon, but we did not
sacrifice these for the trip. The
trip could have been made at an
other time. The only other towns in
the district were Thomasvilie, Salis
bury, Concord and MIooresvilie teams
which L. H. S. had beaten in the
last few weeks. What was the use
to play over again? The champion
ship goes no further than the district
and there isn’t much honor. How
did we know that our “loyal” sup
porters would have taken us to an
other town where the games would
have been played. We have no de
pendable support.
Furthermore, please show me any
thing else except democracy in the
team. Everyone is given an eciual
chance at the beginning of the season.
Those who come out and work hard
est win. Is not our coach capable
of selecting his own team when he
sees them practice everyday? While
the students who are criticizing the
most are going not by what they
know but from hear-say.
I nave gone into detailed informa
tion, because I do not believe, that
you and many others know anything
about what they are talking about.

they did, by angry denunciation of
the v/riter. They showed that a part,
if not all, of it was the truth.
I, for one, would like to see a bet
ter issue of the Lexhipep. The last
issue did not represent Lexington
High School at all. Where was the
news? Would you like for any other
school to read the last issue and think
that was the best Lexington High
can do? The jokes were very good,
if you were able to find them. Make
them more next time.

A Base Ball Team
As the spring of the year ap
proaches, thoughts naturally turn
toward a baseball team. In the past
years Lexington has put out a base
ball team which was a credit to the
school, but for some reason, interest
in this great national sport has been
allowed to die down, until last year
we had no team at all. This year
there is a great deal of material in
the high school, and w;ith proper
coaching, Lexington High School
should put out a winning team. But
will she.' She certainly cannot do
so without support, and if she has
no more support than the basketball
teanns had, it will be a disgrace to the
school. So come on, students, wake
up, and help us in putting out a real
baseball team.

song of North Carolina were sung
more frequently in High School the
patriotism and love for the State,
would be ever fresh in the minds of
the students throughout the State.
Patriotic songs should be sung more
often than they are, also spiritual
songs. Let us not forget that the
greatest of these is the spiritual.
W!ho is responsible for the fact that
no more singing is being done in the
chapel exercises? Does the trouble
lie with the students or with the au
thorities in power.
It does not matter where the
trouble is, only we should wake up
to the matter, and have more singing
from now until the end of school
than we had last semester.

Wants More Singing in L. H. S.
In the last issue of the Lexhipep,
an article headed “School Spirit” was
published. Although this article was
very much to the point and somewhat
exaggerated, many students in L. H.
S. think as did the writer of the
aforesaid article.
Of course, the girls of the basket
ball team who were so fortunate as
to take the trip referred to, did not
like that article. But had they not
been guilty to some degree, they
would not have taken the article as
A Monogram Club
Among the many societies and
clubs which are needed in this school
is a Monogram club. There are
many boys in sphool who have made
their L’s this year. These boys work
ed hard for their letters, and they
naturally feel proud of them, so why
not organize a club exclusive to
others than wearers of the L? This
would not only make the wearers of
the monograms feel prouder that
they are able to wear them, but
would also stimulate interest in
athletics, and cause more boys to
come out for the different teams and
compete for membership.

Singing has been neglected very
much this year. We have chapel ex
ercises three times a week, and sure
ly we could devote at least one period
a week to singing. In former years
we had singing every chapel period
together with all the announcements.
We only had thirty minutes just as
we do this year. This writer would
like to know what is the trouble?
Also the writer is a great lover of
music nad would like to see more
singing in the High School. We have
two very able music teachers this
year, and there is no reason why
we should not have more singing in
Lexington High School. This writer
has been in L. H. S. for two terms
and has never heard any State song
sung in chapel. The patritotism of
this' writer was aroused on reading
the account of the inauguration of
Hon. Angus Wilton McLean as Gov
ernor of North Carolina, If the State
A Bunch of CrlUzisnis
On Washington’s birthday out of
30 minutes chapel time only 3 minutes
were taken upon discussion and re
spect of the Father of Our Country.
Different members of the faculty
do eveiTthing but cooperate.
The students cannot be expected to
cooperate unless the faculty sets an
example.
Let it be remembered that the time
is past when one man or one woman
can be the “whole cheese.”
Authority has promised both the
Senior and the Junior classes imme
diate justice but justice has not been
meted out upon wrltnig certain harsh
and slighting opinions. It might be
remem(bered that the Lexhipep goes
to quite a few schools as an exchange,
and undesirable opinions of us may
easily be formed.
